The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

"I'm guilty....guilty of winning an emmy."

Amazing scene. I was legitimately pumped up watching that, even though I knew it was coming. That Tywin-Tyrion stare down was amazing. I loved how the director focused on Jamie-Cersei-Tywin-Tyrion and the camera kinda flowed between them focusing on all of their reactions. You could tell it was killing Jamie watching his brother get humiliated.
They totally set the stage well for Jamie and Varys to break Tyrion out, especially since the only person Tyrion actually asked a question of was Varys, and that was only to get him to feel shame
. You saw little snippets of Margaery looking on reacting to certain things knowing full well that Tyrion is actually innocent. :chuckles: @ Oberyn's line "Well, did you fuck him like it was his last night?"

Looks like Stannis is now fully backed by the Iron Bank?

The Ironborn - Ramsay scenes served its purpose but was meh to me. Showed how broken Reek is and set up Moat Cailin stuff. I think they did a good job encapsulating that really weird relationship betwen Ramsay and Theon where Ramsay has this sick, twisted affection for reek, and vice versa. Literally like a pet dog.

Yeah the Greyjoy stuff didn't fully work for me. Loved it in a way because Alfie Allen killed it and showed how broken Reek has become... fighting off Yara and running back into his cage. But the logistics are weird... She just runs up in the castle and gets to Theon and essentially fights off the Dreadfort? Where were the troops? Then her running away seems uncharacteristic of the show's Yara. She disobeyed their father and sailed around Westeros to save her brother, sees how damaged he's become... then just leaves him? Normally I'd assume something else was in the works, but she verbally states that she lost him. Just didn't sit right.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

A few other thoughts...

1. Is it just me, or is Tywin going to write a letter to Dany telling her that Jorah betrayed her? We're beyond book content with this stuff, but it seemed like that was the implication, and it would make sense for Tywin to wedge a knife between Dany and one of her most trusted advisers.

2. I was kind of let down by that Dreadfort scene. I get the point of it...that Asha/Yara finds out that Theon is truly broken and gives him up for dead, but it just seemed like she gave up too easy. "Oh, they have dogs? Well, shit, we better gtfo of here!" Like, at least show the Ironborn running for their lives with the dogs on their heels.

3. I wonder if that Theon/Reek scene was meant to pave way for Yara to decide to
make her case for ruling the Iron Islands at the Kingsmoot next season. With Theon essentially dead, she would become the heir to the Iron Islands and be compelled to make her case against her uncles. That's assuming, of course, that they do the Kingsmoot at all.

4. I feel like they cut out a scene with Ramsay in it. He was with that girl in bed, and then appears next covered in blood. We also didn't see her slap him like in the trailers. There didn't seem to be much point to that scene at all. I think that, in the wake of all the accusations about the show being too comfortable with misogyny found a scene of Ramsay killing the girl being cut from the final version of the episode. The show's run time was also about five minutes shorter than we've been used to this season.

They did say earlier in the season that Roose had to smuggle himself into his own fort because the Ironborn still hold Moat Cailin so you can assume most of the Dreadfort's men are still south, similar to how Winterfell was emptied when Theon took it. At least that is how I let it make sense in my mind. They are totally setting up the
Kingsmoot
. At least we got to see Asha axe someone in the head. :dunno:

I want to see Euron!

I read an interesting theory the other day that Daario = Euron and I was shocked at how much evidence there actually was for it. The timelines almost work out, depending on how long it would take for a single ship to sail all that way. I'll try to find it again. Spoilers btw...

I just wish there was some way...
that we don't have to kill off Oberyn and still have the rest of the story make sense
since the actor is great at the role.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Do you think people still hate Theon? Do they pity him?
His arc in ADWD was my favorite
so I am hoping that the correct message is getting across.

I can't answer for other people, but I don't. Also, Alfie Allen is killing it as Reek. Too bad his performance this last episode is going to fly under the radar of the Tyrion speech.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

If this is your mind set regarding this show, I would hate being you (I know it's not just you by any means). Constantly comparing/contrasting the book vs. the show, does it live up to what I experienced whilst reading it...i mean, jesus - that sounds awful!

I knew somebody would bitch about that comment, lol.

Yeah, it's pretty awful. I absolutely love this show and it's one of the best adaptations I've ever seen. Very awful to be in agony for an hour every week watching this fantastic show.

Anyway, I agree about all the Ironborn/Asha stuff. I didn't think it worked very well, the logistics seemed awkward, it was just meh. Alfie Allen is great as Theon though and did very well in the scenes.

I think it was mostly just bad direction and editing. Showing a two-minute scene of them fighting their way out of the castle would have done wonders for the pacing. Just showing them magically back at their boats made the scene more comedic than anything.

Also weird that they turned Ramsay into Captain Badass. In the books Roose makes a point to mention that, while his son is certainly fierce, he's not a well-trained fighter, and certainly not the type who could take down a bunch of armored, shielded Ironborn while fighting bare-chested and totally without armor.

Still, how did Yara know that? Her jetting on Theon like that though was even more jarring than the covert ops plot.

Good point. Really weird. I guess I rationalized in my head that Ramsay was fighting off Ironborn on his way to the room with Yara, which explained the blood. I do seem to recall the slap in the previews, though. If they just cut that out and never explain where Myranda went... that's pretty lazy.

I thought for a second they were gonna show Reek's vagina

Yeah, I rationalized it the same way.

That scene just doesn't seem to make any sense out of context, though. Why show Ramsay in bed with her at all? I mean, I know the show doesn't shy away from gratuitous nudity, but it's usually in the name of providing exposition. That little scene didn't really have any purpose whatsoever.

If it was indeed cut, I'd imagine it was a result of the complaints we've seen about sexual violence this season, primarily with the Cercei/Jaime sept scene and then the Craster's Keep stuff.

Liked the episode but couldnt stop wondering how all the eunuchs go for a piss? need to figure that one out. I agree that tywin is going to blow up danys world, but im amazed by how well they handled the court. They kept most of the content in and really hammered home the hatred between tyrion and cersei

Don't really like or buy that theory, but definitely some evidence supporting it.
