The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Well, it is an epic series of 7 books.

Where seasons can last 10 years or whatever. Makes sense it doesn't start in book 2. But yeah. I get it. :chuckles:

Actually, given how long winter is (especially this winter) and how much they talk about it, you'd think he'd want to start it earlier. Are we going to go through ten-plus years of winter in the last two books when the first five have, by my estimations, accounted for maybe three years of total time?

Rate the books in order of favorite to least. Anyone who picks anything other than book 3 as their favorite is just wrong.

Bolded for truth. :chuckles:

1. A Storm of Swords
2. A Game of Thrones
3. A Dance with Dragons
4. A Clash of Kings
5. A Feast for Crows

I think most would agree that Feast is probably the worst of the five books. It's not bad, but just not much happens.

Storm is an easy choice for first, as basically all the best scenes take place in it. Thrones got second place because it's a very solid book from start to finish with almost no flaws other than starting a little slow (as is expected in the first book of a long series). I chose Dance third because it brought back all the best POV characters (especially
Theon's
chapters). Clash is fourth because, overall, I think it's a little too slow. The battle at the end is fantastic, though.

2 and 5 very close in my rankings as well. I just felt that Blackwater trumped any specific thing in book 5. However,
the thing with Jon has to be the biggest cliffhanger that GRRM has written thus far.

Jon's "death" had almost no impact on me because I just assumed he was going to either survive his wounds (unlikely) or be resurrected somehow after spending some time in Ghost (more likely).

True. I'm much more interested in the "how" and "when" rather than
"Will he survive the wounds?" "Of course he will, it's Jon effing Snow."

Peter Dinklage fucking nailed it. Wow.

I always wanted to see the Seinfeld trial in medieval times. :chuckles:

I was really disappointed they cut out the "my giant of Lannister" line.

DINKLAGE. And I thought there was no way they could do that scene justice.

Wow. That was impressive work.
