The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That was one of my favorite episodes of the series.

The Dany and Tyrion scenes were great, and now I'm super excited to see them together in the books. I assum that'll happen.

Cersei in captivity was pretty solid too. Glad Kevan will be back. He's a great counter to her now that Tywin is dead.

And that White Walker battle.... I was starting to worry that in the books and in the show that they were becoming an afterthought. Like "how could they really be so impactful at this point?" Well, the show just made them absolutely TERRIFYING. Terrifying.

And I loved how while the dragon glass made the walker die with a slow burn, the valyrian steel just obliterated him. How many Valyrian swords actually exist on the show? Is it just Longclaw, Oathkeeper, Widow's Wail and the dagger used in Bran's assassination attempt?

It highlights how absurd it was for anyone to believe that someone would give a cheap assassin a Valyrian steel dagger to kill a paralyzed kid.

Here is a list of Valyrian steel swords. Lightbringer is not amongst them.

Did they deviate from the books with the valerian steel? I can't remember that being suggested anywhere.

I think Jorah will fight in the pit then there will be the
dragon attack
and he will survive due to the grey scale. That will make him valuable

Isn't there a special sword that The Prince Who Was Promised is supposed to weild?

IMO this episode breathed heavy life into the Jon Snow-Targaryan theory, which I think is becoming more and more imminent. The relationship between Aemon and Jon is my biggest clue.

Along with Ned telling Jon "next time we meet I'll tell you about your mother" before he went to the wall.

Seems like they're pretty obviously setting up Ollie to be one of the guys who stabs him. Dunno if it'll be this season or next, though.

Was Thorne involved in Jon's assassination in the books? I don't remember. If he is I think that's a little too predictable and cliche.

No one is totally sure. Jon sent him out on a ranging mission beyond the Wall prior to getting stabbed. There are theories that he returned in secrecy and helped plot Jon's assassination, but no one knows for sure yet. Jon never mentions seeing him, for what it's worth.

They may have him be involved in it on the show, though, simply because he's one of the only recognizable characters at the Wall since so many of the other guys have been cut or are just extras.

You know what I just realized...Trystane Martell may be a replacement for Aegon on the show. It seems obvious at this point that Dany won't be coming to Westeros until next season, as they've already announced the presumed appearance of Euron Greyjoy, which gives her a method to cross the seas. In the meantime, we need some sort of conflict. Could the Martells start taking castles in the South with Trystane married to Myrcella?

I'm trying to figure out why else they would have cast his character at all, or even included Dorne if they were going to toss out Aegon and Connington. Merging his character with Trystane makes some sense.

Also noticed that neither Tyrion nor Daenerys mentions the Martells as they're running through the powerful houses of Westeros. Not sure if there was any reason for omitting them.

My predictions: Red Lady gives Jon Snow new life as Azor Ahai. Hence the interest she's had in him.

Sansa, somehow, starts rounding up Starks and works to take back the North alongside Jon.

Daenarys and the Starks team up. Starks were the first name Tyrion said and he quickly axed them saying "they're gone." Obvious allies for Dany, and they'll be what she needs to first take Westeros and then overcome the Walkers.

Yeah, that did seem odd. Perhaps it's because she doesn't see them as enemies like all the other houses? They were, after all, the last house to bend the knee to Robert and have mostly remained in isolation since.

Well, we have the pending question of "what is Doran Martell's game", likely to be resolved in the last two episodes, right after Tyrion runs down every house except the Martells and says "the Tyrells aren't enough." To me, that's the writers leaving themselves an opening to play the big, surprise reveal that Doran Martell supports Danaerys.

It appears that Doran's game right now is to marry Trystane off to Myrcella, then have them claim the throne. But that seems kind of odd to me, because that means he'd be alone fighting both the Lannisters and the Tyrells, who currently hold the throne. So what if that whole thing is really just a front, and that his real plan is to ally with Danaerys, like in the books?

Just because we didn't see Trystane go to Essos doesn't mean Doran hasn't sent someone else. All it would take is an audience in Daenarys throne room to drop collective jaws.

Well, what Starks are there to round up? Bran is north of the Wall and Arya is in Essos. That leaves Rickon, but nobody knows where he is. I'm not sure where she and Brienne could even start looking. And Jon seems pretty committed to the Wall at this point. Even assuming he doesn't get stabbed in the last episode of the season, it would seem really odd for him to simply abandoned all the wildings he just brought in, and count on Ser Alister to treat them fairly.

What still seems more likely to me is that she ends up escaping to Stannis, because he's at least someone with soldiers and messengers he could send to other Northern houses much faster than Sansa could do just traipsing through the snow.

It's a good question. The only problem I have with that scenario is that it means the Martells are going to war with no allies, against both the Tyrells and the Lannisters. Wouldn't that be a huge longshot?

Maybe that would work if he's also coordinating with Danaerys, as in the whole Tristan/Myrcella seizing the throne is just a feint to draw the Lannisters and Tyrells away from KL. Danaerys then lands behind them and take KL without a prolonged fight.

I doubt Jon is just going to be hanging out at the wall now. I think he's gonna start travelling through the seven kingdoms raising an army, until he ends up at or near kings landing at the time of Dany's conquest.

By 'rounding up' I mean the starks will all be working in tandem.

Well, that would be a huge change from the books, because it's about time for Jon to get stabbed by some of his brothers.

Plus, one thing that has been made pretty clear is that mobility in the North is pretty limited. Even if Jon did leave the Wall and travel around the Seven Kingdom -- likely cementing his place in history as "the Lord Commander who abandoned his post" -- he has absolutely no reason to believe that he could get the southern lords to follow him, nor does he have any reason to believe their armies could even reach the Wall period.

He'll get stabbed, and then the Red Lady will bring him back. Saw an article where the actress said there's a "big scene" coming up with those 2.

Oaths are out the window at this point lol, shit is clearly hitting the fan. If he can't get armies to the Wall, why would he stay there?

His goal in life right now should be to unite the people of the world against the walkers. He can't do that at the Wall.
