The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Completely agree. That whole thing at White Harbor, the Frey pies, etc. was my favorite part. A whispered "the North Remembers" by a refugee from the Golden Girls didn't carry the same punch.

I get that they had to reduce the number of locations, combine scenes, etc. It's why Sam probably isn't going to Oldtown, why Sansa and Brienne are in Winterfell, why we lost Victarion, etc.

Still sucks, though.

Huh. I got the feeling Sam is headed to Old Town.

I suppose he still might, but I don't think he'll get there this season even if he does. They just seem pretty big on limiting locations for each season.

But, I suppose if Jon is heading to Hardhome, that's a pretty good opportunity for Sam and Gilley to take a ship.

I actually like the Sam/Gilley thing, and I generally can't stand that stuff. But they're very un-Kardashian, and it seems more realistic.

He definitely is. With Gilly too I imagine. He is gonna meet up with his family. Check out these casting calls and make of them what you will.

The first role on the table is…

  • Pirate, man in his 40’s to late 50’s. He’s “an infamous pirate who has terrorized seas all around the world. Cunning, ruthless, with a touch of madness.”
He’s a dangerous-looking man. A very good part this season.
We’d heard unconfirmed rumors that Theon’s uncle Euron Greyjoy would be appearing in season 6, and this sounds like him, more than his brother Victarion.

Next up is the one I’m personally most excited about:

  • Father. Aged 50’s to 60’s, he’s one of the greatest soldiers in Westeros- a humorless martinet, severe and intimidating. He demands martial discipline in the field and in his home. It’s described as “a very good part” for next year and that he’s “centrally involved” in a protagonist’s storyline.
This is a clear description of Randyll Tarly, Sam’s abusive father and the famous soldier mentioned by Stannis Baratheon this a couple episodes ago. Some had guessed the discussion might mean we’re seeing him next year, and they were right.

The next three characters appear to be linked to this storyline- most likely Sam’s mother, brother Dickon and one of his sisters. All have the same comment about being centrally involved in a protagonist’s storyline.

  • Mother, in her 50’s. She’s a sweet, plump, and adoring mother, and has a soft spot for one of her children who benefits from her decency.
  • Sister, in her early 20s. She’s a kind, friendly and unpretentious woman.
  • Brother, in his early to mid-20’s . Athletic, a good hunter, an excellent swordsman, manly, not particularly bright but the favourite child of the father.
Next up:

  • Priest, in his 40’s or 50’s. A gruff ex-soldier who found religion. Now a no-nonsense rural priest who ministers to the poor of the countryside. He’s salt-of-the-earth man who has weathered many battles. (Septon Maribald I'm guessing...wonder who will encounter him)

A few more roles:

  • Leading Actress, in her early 40’s, she’s an elegant actress with a traveling theatre company. Fun, charismatic, rum-drinking actress in the troupe. (Arya's acting gig?)
  • Priestess. Mid-20’s to early 30’s. Any ethnicity- she’s beautiful, intense, and magnetic. (Red priestess to interact with Dany?)
  • Fierce Warrior, a tall man in 30’s or 40’s with a powerful physique. They’re looking for someone with “mixed ethnicity” for the role. (I have no idea. Someone in Essos or Dorne based on the mixed ethnicity)
They’re also searching for a trio of young boys with very specific descriptions. My instinct says another flashback- perhaps this time via the weirwood network?

  • A large boy, with an actor who is 10-12 but playing 7 or 8. He’s described as “a clever boy” who seems too large for his age. He’s big and tall but not fat. “Characterful squat features” are a plus for this part. it’s specified that this is a one-time appearance.
  • 12 year old boy, with brown hair and blue eyes. He needs to use a Northern accent. He has scenes where he has to spar with a wooden sword.
The length of the role isn’t specified.
  • 7 year old boy with dark brown hair, a narrow face and green eyes. He also has a Northern accent. He also spars with the wooden sword, so it’s safe to assume it’s the same scene. This role is similarly open-ended, the description only stating that the character is being ‘introduced.’
What if this is a flash back of Ned, Robert, and Brandon?

It’s worth noting that Sean Bean has green eyes, so if this is for a flashback role, the write-up would be a good fit for a child Ned.

That definitely sounds like Ned, Brandon and Robert on the last part. Tarly and Euron are shoe ins for the first two obviously.

Weird. Tarly must be significant somehow in the story...didn't see that coming. Or they just wanted some drama with Sam.

I think Tarly will be important in the books because its been hinted that he has targaryen loyalties and I imagine he will be the first major lord to support Aegon (or Dany in the show).

This is not the first time Jorah has had to deal with stone-related baddies.

Wyman Manderly also drops the sickest burn in the history of the Seven Kingdoms.

"But mayhaps this is for the best...had he lived, he would have grown up to be a Frey."

Just my 2 cents…

Loved to have seen Sam stand up for once, would have loved to have seen him actually kill one of those *******s but an epic appearance by Ghost.

Looks like no hope for Sansa, I hope someone saves her or better yet she actually uses that weapon she took on her husband mid sex.

Ending was quite impressive, love nothing more than seeing the queen locked up, even if I hate those religious freaks overall.

Two bad 4 of his 5 chins got sliced through.

This episode was needed after a few "snoozers" so to speak. Loved everything about this episode from the talk with Tyrion to the obvious end scene.

Was I the only won talking to the tv telling the giant to quit swinging that fucking pole and get the fuck out of dodge?

Best episode of the season. Lots of stuff really moved along, or at least seemed like it did. We finally got the Tyrion/Danaerys meeting to which the whole Essos storyline has been building for awhile. Lord Kevan is returning to KL, which should be good as well.

And I actually really liked where Sansa is. She seems much more assertive than she has before, in either the books or show. The problem with her storyline in the books -- at least for me -- is that she has essentially survived this long by being careful not to offend anyone too much. Her "armor" is her passivity. She had a couple of minor incidents of defying authority, like when she stood up for Ser Dontos in the books, but all in all, she basically has played everything very safe.

By marrying her off to Ramsay, the writers have basically taken that option of passivity/attempted (minor) manipulation away from her. Now, she's actually becoming desperate, which I think leads to much more interesting places for her. She will be forced to make much bolder choices, and take much greater risks, than she has before. Also like the idea of Ramsay leading a raid/assassination party to get Stannis. Different from the books, but actually kind of plausible.

And the whole Castle Black/Hardhome storyline was just fucking awesome. Congrats to the writers for taking something that happened off-screen in the books, and making it one of the best sequences in the whole show.
