The Quarterback prospect thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Savage is a name you want for a defensive player or maybe a Running Back. Quarterbacks aren't supposed to be savages. They're supposed to cool and calm.

Pass.

Considering he's turning 24 a few weeks after the draft Savage is probably closer to his ceiling than most prospects. CBS has him projected in the 7th, wouldn't be mad if we took him late.

That video doesn't persuade me against taking any of the top QBs at 4 though. Then you wait to see which WR out of Marquise Lee, Kelvin Benjamin, or Odell Beckham Jr. fall to 26. It's hopeful, but that'd be an amazing first round.

He's gonna go higher than the 7th, probably the fourth IMO.

He's simply the only guy I'd take that ISNT a top guy, obviously I want Bortles.

I simply want no part of non-top guys who have expectations to start like Garoppolo or Carr.

Agree 100% there.

I can't see Houston passing on Bortles, O'Brien is going to love the guy. He made Matt McGloin look like a competent QB, he's not going to pass on the physical tools Bortles brings to the table. I can't see Jacksonville passing on Bridgewater, they didn't go QB last year and their GM is ready to get his guy.

So the question Boobie, you coming around to the Manzitter at all?

That's not the question...the question would be: boobie, did you get into a car accident and lose half of your brain function? That's the only way he's gonna come around to Manziel.

I'm not going to change my tune on the QBs in this draft just because Bortles and Teddy come off the board before we pick. If they're gone, there's no QB I want in the first round.

So my question to you is this...

Houston: Bortles
Rams: Clowney or Robinson
Jax: Bridgewater

I assume you'd rather trade the #4 pick to Dallas for Brandon Weeden before you draft Manziel. So, you are Cleveland's GM, what are you doing at 4 and what is your answer at starting QB for 2014 + beyond since you aren't a Carr/Garappolo guy.

I wouldn't be too opposed to Mack

Worst case scenario is both QBs are gone, but I'm probably trading back in that scenario.

Trade into the 8-12 range, look for Khalil Mack or reach for Xavier Su'a-Filo. Bank the extra picks, using one of them to select Savage and look to the 2015 draft to get a QB.

As good as this draft is, it's light at QB with a bunch of good prospects available next year. Mariotta, Hundley, Winston top the board now, but plenty of guys who could be rising, all of whom I like better than the value QBs this year.

Roll with Hoyer, but like I said its a worst case scenario and I think one of the two top QBs will be there in the end.

St. Louis takes Robinson, Jacksonville takes Clowney.

I understand he's a controversial prospect, but now anyone that wants Manziel is brain dead? I understand the board hates him, but most scouts have him as a top ten talent in this draft. I know after the first passing graph where Manziel looked alright Boobie said he put a whole other finger back on the cliff, the second graph was another in which Manziel wasn't exposed for the fraud a lot expected him to be. Just wondering if the opinion's changed again, even if it's slight.

Yeah, going to disagree with that one. Being mocked in the top 10 by national analysts doesn't mean actual scouts have him in their top 10. My guess is he lies in the 20-30 range for most teams, but being a QB he'll be drafted higher than that 20-30 figure.

I struggle to call television analysts "scouts," theyre there to promote the draft and certain players, sometimes leaving the football stuff out of it in favor of sensationalized attributes like being dynamic or having "it" (read: making headlines).

As for the question if my opinion has changed?

No, not really at all.

He's just a wholly flawed QB prospect whose ceiling is probably that of a middle of the road starter if he can overcome the number of physical obstacles in his way.

He has to get drafted to the absolute perfect team, if I'm the 49ers and he's there in the second round I'd be excited to get him and stash him. Some team would basically have to redesign their entire offense for him to be somewhat effective, and he's not going to have the luxury of sitting on the bench which makes the proposition all the more scary.

That's the biggest concern I'd have for him, he's played in an offense that's entirely different than what he's going to be asked to do on the NFL level.

That and Chuck Booms and Aaron Goldhammer are his two biggest fans. That's the biggest red flag of them all.

How would you feel if the Vikings snagged him in the second round? Or even eighth, for that matter? I don't recall reading your opinion of him, so sorry if you have a we're this before.

I'm very indifferent on Manziel. I think he embodies the term boom or bust more than any player I've seen in a while. I don't think there is going to be a happy medium with him, so either he is going to be really good or he is going to be really fucking awful in my opinion. I don't think that is worth the 8th pick at all, cause you want your 1st round picks to be as close to sure things as possible so that you can gamble on boom or bust players in the later rounds of the draft. Also, like the Browns, we have to play games in shitty weather as the season progresses, and I am not confident at all that Manziel possesses the ability to play at a high level late in the season at Lambeau or Soldier Field in single digit weather, a windchill below 0, and snow. I'd warm up to him in the 2nd round, but I'd rather take someone with good arm talent who needs to sit back and develop for a bit at that point, not someone who is going to come in and bring on media and fan hype to force a coaches or GMs hand to starting him early on.

All in all, I'd be really pissed if they drafted him at any point in the draft.

My biggest thing is that I don't see the "boom" in that line of thinking with Manziel.

I think there is the idea out there that he's either going to be really good or really bad, where as I think he's either going to be really bad or he proves the doubters wrong but it still limited in terms of his ceiling because of the lack of physical tools.

Do people really see this guy's ceiling being among the elite QBs? I'd have a hard time believing that, given his skillset.
