Kalil, DeCastro, Claiborne are all better players.
Aside from Kalil, most would disagree with you.

If we do end up with RGIII, it will be interesting to see if the national media starts giving some love to the Browns, or if they'll take the "Cleveland's cursed and RGIII is screwed now" route. Would be nice to get a Monday nighter at least. While I'm definitely warming up to the possibility of getting RGIII, I still wouldn't trade up for him. But then again, I don't think we'll have to.
What if H&H have Murray, Barkley or Wilson rated ahead of RG3? Do you still take RG3, or fill in the holes at other positions, get a stopgap QB for this year to compete with McCoy and focus your draft on a QB next year?

First off, I like RG3. If I'm them, I'll pick him. However I wont pick a guy like Tannehill because I dont like him.
So i'm not sure what you're talking about.
I'm probably the highest on DeCastro on this board and I would only take him in the teens.
I think we're talking about 2 different perspectives. I'm talking about what I'd do if I were H & H and I didn't think he was a franchise guy, while you are talking about your opinion of the him, saying you think he is a franchise guy.
All I'm saying is: My opinion of RGIII aside, if I'm H & H and I don't think he's a franchise guy, I'm not taking him.
As for the couple others who are saying that's obvious that they shouldn't take him if they don't feel he's a franchise guy. Not really.. they can still like the kid & take a risk even if they don't feel he's a franchise QB. That's what I'm saying they need to avoid.
I've kept my two cents out of here for a long time, but I finally am willing to offer an opinion:
I'm also in the "I don't know what to make of RG3" camp. I've had about all I can stand of Cleveland sports media shoving him down my throat though, I can tell you that. I tried listening to 92.3 The Fan for like a week and I swear to God, it was "The RG3 Channel" because it's ALL they talked about no matter what time of the day I turned it on. It's also what all the media is talking about.
Look, I get it, he's got talent, brains, work ethic, character, etc. He's likely to be a pretty good QB. I just don't see the elite level, franchise-core player yet. Does it bother ANYBODY that he's already torn his ACL? For someone that will likely rely on his athleticism as an upgrade over what we have now at QB, this concerns me. When I hear people talk about trading up for him, that alone is reason enough for me to pass on trading up. This team has so many holes all over the place and to waste assets is just mind-boggling. Trading up makes no sense to me. If he's there at #4, I would consider taking him, don't get me wrong. I'm not anti-RG3.
If you plug RG3 into McCoy's spot with the same roster of offensive line and wide receivers, I just don't see that much of an upgrade. It's not a knock on RG3, it's a knock on how bad some of our offensive players are. I'll probably get skewered alive and laughed off of these boards, for saying this, but I would rather upgrade more of the roster as a whole and give Colt another season. If Colt didn't lead the team in those games against New England, New Orleans, and the New York Jets the season before last, I would be 1000% on board with giving up on him. I'll definitely get eviscerated for admitting that I'd almost rather them trade down at #4 if RG3 is there with Washington or Miami.
The other part of my stance is that I feel as if the majority of Browns' fans are overly impatient and are going after the shiny new toy when it comes to RG3. I know the Browns have been bad for a long time and it frustrates the hell out of me too. But an endless carousel of QBs and head coaches is never going to make things get better. I would like to see what could happen with a little stability, a little continuity. I'm just not willing to go all in for RG3, have him bust, and watch as the rebuild takes another 2 years (especially if we give up the farm for him).
I have an unpopular opinion as far as the consensus, I'm prepared for the flaming. I just try to look at as many different viewpoints as I can when it comes to investments into this team's future.
correct me if im wrong but it sounds like your opinion is "i dont care if RG3 is rated a better prospect than anyone else after luck, if he isnt a 'franchise' QB i dont want him."
More or less. Just because he's rated higher than anybody besides Luck, doesn't mean A) That he's going to end up that way in the long run and/or B) That taking him at #4 won't come back to bite us.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we will regret it, but if the #4 pick in the draft is a QB on a team with so many other holes, that team better be confident that he is the QB of the future & will be pretty damn close to a franchise guy. I'm not interested in taking a "good" QB that high, and neither should H & H.
The last thing I want is for H & H to sit there & end up saying: "Well, he might end up being a franchise QB, but we're not too confident that he will be. Well, screw it, he's better than Colt, let's take him anyway."
If they are confident he's a franchise guy, by all means, I'll be happy with the pick. However, if they have their doubts, I don't want them taking him just because. They know talent & they know QB's, so I trust their judgement.
