The Walking Dead

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

Yeah, Andrea as she's currently been developed totally sucks. She almost killed Darryl, who has become my favorite character. Plus, she's a bitch and she doesn't really offer the group any assets.

That's the trouble. They've given you the perception that she is useless. Only, I know better. And, as for her being a bitch. lol Wait till you meet Michonne the ex-attorney with the katana. She's a sweetheart. ;)

Dude....you are spoiling the shit out of this for us.

I did not. I am trying very hard not to. Knowing you are suppose to meet some character in the future doesn't tell you much. Hell, they don't even follow half the stuff in the books anyways. We may never meet her. I haven't said anything about the zombies in the barn. And, telling you Andrea is going to be useful just illustrates how poorly I think the producers are writing her.

Speaking of that. I really hate the artificial creation of drama for tv. The horse, cliff, and snake. Andrea firing the rifle at Darrel. It's like I've seen this nonsense before. It's the crap like that that I didn't like in this episode. Overall, this was definitely better then the previous week's episode. I am really expecting them to find Sophia two episodes from now in the mid-season finale. It's what I think they are dragging it out for. Oh well.

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

Agree about the kids. Much like in real life, they're nothing but a liability. They offer no contributions to the group's welfare...especially Sophia.

What the hell did she ever do that makes her worth everyone risking their lives over and over. And don't tell me she deserves it just because she's a human being. A dog would be worth more to the group than her.

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

What pisses me off most about the writing is that it isn't creative (in other words - the tells). Some examples you ask?
1. When they did a close up of the snake - of course we knew it was going to cause the horse to go apeshit and knock Daryl off.
2. The gay note passing - Of course we knew something was up with the barn (This plot line intrigues me though)
3. Andrea with the gun - of course we knew that - when everyone realized Daryl was not a walker she was going to shoot him anyways.
4. The old dude - Of course we knew something was up when he kept laying "subtle" hints at the crew not staying or to only allow him to deal with walkers.

Stop with the fucking tells & don't take the audience for granted. We're not dumb. Allow us to figure shit out and/or don't spoil shit. Allow it to happen organically.

However - where the writing has failed (outside the pregnancy issue which is awesome/terrifying if you deeply think about it) the production has been spectacular. They have used the time on the farm as a guide to try to build the characters. Which - in theory - is sound. Unfortunately we're not getting any character development (outside of Daryl and to a lesser extent Shane).

Them chasing around the girl? I get it but I don't like it. Again - its a device to build the characters but it's failing miserably. In a post-appacolyptic world - I'd imagine you would need any semblance of a goal to keep your mind at ease. Their goal is to find this girl. Unfortunately the writing has been terrible. Ohh I know - let's stumble around the same zombie infested woods for eons looking for a dumb slit who decided to run off.

Love the flashbacks but wish they wouldn't be intro's. Have a side plot (like is the government doing anything? How about other countries? It may not mesh with the comics - but transforming the comics to TV isn't always as easy as it seems)

/Rant. I still like the show - as it as a ton of promise (and I love anything and everything zombie related). But for fucks sakes - enough of the drama. Lori being preggers is a sick plot twist. Imagine having to care for a baby while zombies are all around? Conceivably - Lori could see her baby being eaten by zombies. Awesome

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

Also - ease up on score during ominous scenes. Let it fucking happen without telling us something creepy/fucked up shit is about to go down

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

I would not go as far as say it's the best episode as Jigo said, but it was definitely good. Ended great with the barn. We finally see Jackie Chan makin his moves on the slut. Hopefully we see Andrea finally break down and kill herself (If dale doesn't try and move in and rape her) Daryl's character is prime as usual.

This season may finally be turning around.

To clarify...best episode of the SEASON, not the series.

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

I love this show - but I think that is mostly because I enjoy anything zombie related.

My biggest gripe so far has been the complete lack of character development. Maybe I'm just comparing this to Mad Men and Breaking Bad - but I don't really care about any of the characters on this show. Every action seems to set up something that is going to happen in the future. I'm fine with actual character building that isn't necessarily foreshadowing what is going to happen next.

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

how many more episodes do you think it takes until they give up on finding that girl or until they find her?

Who knows. But what I do know is that every plot device in this season is based around kids:
A. Dumb slit running away
B. Stupid Carl getting shot
C. Lori being preggers

I would venture to guess that at least 1 of the 3 won't be around by season three (hopefully sooner)

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

I understand you don't like the kid but do you find it odd calling a 7 year old girl a "slit"? I think that's a bit screwed up.
