Do you think NBA will not push the refs to get the 2nd largest market and historic iconic team in the playoffs? It's about the $$$$.

Either that, or a team with Kobe Bryan, Dwight Howard, Steve Nash, Pau Gasol (or whatever they get for him) are too good to miss the playoffs.

Me personally... this reminds me of the lakers in 2003-04 ... when they had Shaq, Kobe, Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Young Derek Fisher... there was too much talent and only one ball... because of that reason they had their ups in downs .. won 56 games but there wasn't enough role players. This team has alot of talent but really NO role players and role players are the guys that basically get you to the key minutes where the superstars win it. Lakers will not win it this year for that reason alone.

I wish our right to swap was unprotected because it's certainly a possibility that the Lakers completely collapse due to age/fit/injuries/coaching/etc, but nothing we can do about it. If we assume they'll play better as the games start to mean more, then the early losses are all good and will help hold their final record down.

I think that's the safest assumption we could make.

If anything, Kobe will just go back to his Chuckbe style of play and still get them in the playoffs, like he did back in '05 or whatever year that was when he quit against the Suns.

realgm is correct, I was wrong.
And now I'll do a 180 and say I was wrong... again. Just got word from Tad Carper that there is no protection on the pick. Cavs have the right to swap no matter where it lands.

So your telling me we are an injury or two away from a lottery pick!?!

*does the I work from home and am generally unproductive dance*

Damn... Damn... Damn... If only Houston or Brooklyn had been successful in acquiring Howard. LA would also have an injured Bynum to deal with. Oh well.

Anyways, great to hear that it is unprotected. Now, I can go back to pulling for every Laker game to be a loss. I hate the Lakers anyways, so it is a win win. :)

Holy beejus. Now we're talking, I'm hoping disaster truly happens now:
-Gasol has tendinitis in both knees and playing like crap and that is not going to get better unless they rest him for awhile
-Who knows when Nash is coming back and even if he does, this league is filled with PG's who are drooling to go at him even with Howard back there
-Blake's out for a long time as well
-Kobe's been remarkably healthy: the odds will catch up with him at some point no matter what German stuff he's been putting into this body
-Their are actually hoping Jamison provides offense for them. Oh to only dream how bad their defense will be with Jamison and Nash together

Regardless of Nash's defensive shortcoming, the Nash/Blake injuries have killed the Lakers as their PG's now all have PER's less then 10. This is delicious and one can only hope some more injuries are in store for this really old team.

So what's the deal with the Phoenix trade with Los Angeles then?

Who is Tad Carper and is this the final word on this issue?

They will get the pick we would be swapping I believe.

So if we swap LAL with MIA, then that MIA pick would be forwarded to PHX.

Whose Ted Carper?

Let this be the revenge for giving them James Worthy.

Whose Ted Carper?

The Lakers traded in consecutive years, so I'm not sure that's it either...

Carper is the Senior Vice President/Communications for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He's high up there in the organization.

Now that this guy has chimed in I am less confident that there is no protection

Sam The Bullshit Whisperer ‏@SamAmicoFSO

No protections on Lakers pick involving Cavs whatsoever. It's not a matter of believing me @davidzavac. It's a matter of accepting a fact.
