Trade Deadline Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Huh. Luigi might have been promoted. Not sure on LeVon.
Hard to see Jose Ramirez, Erik Gonzales, and Eric Stamets all in Indians system for long.

Jose Ramirezs best position defensively is 2b. Him and Gonzalez are the 2b/ss pair in Columbus. Stamets goes to AA, where he is hitting .245. I don't see how they affect each other.

Does that explain why they were clearing out their lockers though?
Original author on Twitter, who is the HillCats beatwriter for the local newspaper, admitted this is what he 'heard' and that he did not get to the park early enough for the locker room media time so he could check to see for himself.

Official return (per Toronto news sources) for Carrasco would have been: Hoffman, Pompey and Norris.

That's a lot....

I am now under the thought this FO has no idea of what they are doing. They got lucky a few times and rode the pine. FOURTEEN YEARS... What does Dolan and Shapiro have to show for it? Not one damn thing. Who ever thought we get anyone in A trade would help. we better hope so, and draft even more so. So I had to rant and I keep giving this team and FO a pass for some dumb reason.

I don't think the article specified they were all offered together. I think it meant they were at least offered at some point, and maybe not in the same deal.

Norris is 3-10 with a 4.30 ERA, 96 Hits over 90 IP. That's a lot?

Sure he's a lefty, which we need down the road... But he's struggling to get outs in the minors.

I wouldn't mind the teenage sensation in Vlad Jr....

  • Coming out of this deal, the Jays could look to add another option in left field, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. He also cites a report from Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun regarding the failure of Toronto’s recent attempt to pry Carlos Carrasco away from the Indians. Hoffman would have been a part of that deal, along with highly-regarded prospects Daniel Norris and Dalton Pompey, which could explain in part how things worked out. (It’s also an indication of what kind of price Carrasco could command.)

Really? Because they passed up on trading one of the top 10 most skilled starters in baseball this year, who is locked in for the next 5 years on a very favorable deal, for a bunch of what ifs? Hoffman is coming off of Tommy John and no one knows how his arm will react, Norris has major, major control issues and is struggling in AAA, and Pompey isn't exactly some savior for the Indians offensive woes, especially with him not showing that his offensive talent can translate to the MLB level yet and especially with some of the CFers we have coming through the farm. Good lord, it's like people just want them to make a move just to make a move.

U arguing with Snarly bro

I don't see the big upside. Hoffman is a mixed bag to me- if it was a matter of drafting him, fine. But to have a guy fresh off TJ, who hasn't established himself in pro ball yet as the focal point of a trade of one of your best starters? That bothers me. At least Jason Knapp was part of a cadre of prospects with warts.

I like Norris, but that is because he is a weirdo. I do not view him as being more than a mid tier guy, and I think he is the type the Tribe could steal away from the Jays on the cheap in the off-season or next year. Pompey... Intriguing guy, but still a question of what kind of power he has. Just looking at that stat line in the minors I think of Brantley. Then again, it took Brantley 3 years to establish himself as an above average bigleaguer and even then he has the kind of sometimes power that puts the average Cleveland sports fan to sleep.

I'm just not that overwhelmed by that offer. I think with how the market has gone if the a tribe is willing to deal Carrasco then they are better off holding out for a desperate offer or even the off-season.

I agree with your point, but no way in hell is CC even close to top 10.

Read up on SIERA, used by Fangraphs, which they are trying to use to determine a pitchers skill level: http://www.fangraphs.com/library/pitching/siera/

For THIS YEAR, check out who is #6 (and 7 and 10 if you want to feel better about things):

I'm sorry but any stat saying Salazar is better than Greinke isn't getting any attention from me. There is a long list of guys I would take over the cc who is ranked 70th in era and 88th in war

I like our staff, but it is getting a little overrated at this point. Like I said though I still wouldn't trade him for the points you originally made

3 Indians in the top 10, too bad that doesnt show in the actual winning column.
