Trade Deadline Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why were we looking to trade CC again?...
Team needs offense badly, with not much power waiting in the minors. CC is cost controlled, making him valuable. Hope was that they could get a team to pay a ransom for him.

Finding a desperate team that overpays. A deal like that can solve a lot of problems for a small market team (as long as the prospects turn out obviously).

I didn't want them to trade CC at all. The main thing keeping me optimistic about contending near-term is Kluber/Carrasco/Bauer/Salazar. I think they can get the offensive help they need by trading some combination of Naquin, Frazier, Anderson, Kaminsky, Ramsey, Gonzalez, Sheffield, etc.

Danny Valencia was designated for assignment today. His numbers against lefties this season have been solid. Anyone think the Indians could take a flier on him?

Probably not. Sounds like they prefer to see if the legend himself Jerry Sands has some weird reserve of hidden potential and Valencia would eat into his PT. He'll be a good bat claimed by a fringe playoff team/playoff team...Pittsburgh could really use him.

Anyone else find it interesting the only pitcher we heard any trade rumors about was Carrasco? We heard just about every team in the league inquired about our starting pitchers but the only real chatter was about Carrasco. I feel like the Indians dangled him for real, not just to "gauge his value" like some of the national media said. I think the trade rumors resurface in the offseason..... that's probably the best time to maximize your return anyways.

Carrasco is probably the best of the bunch aside from Kluber, which would explain contenders wanting him. I'm guessing the Indians listened on everyone, but I don't know that they would've dealt any without a severe overpay.

Out of the box idea:

Matt Kemp is on revocable waivers. If he passes through unscathed, the Indians make a play for him.

Indians get:
Matt Kemp at 4 years, $73M
Cash Considerations (Call it $8M, $2M for every year left on the deal - So essentially Kemp's deal becomes 4/65)

Padres get:
Michael Bourn at 1-year, $15M
Cody Anderson
Erik Gonzalez
B-level prospect

The Indians get a right-handed bat that needs to be in the American League, while acquiring cap relief. The Padres get some solid young talent, recouping the loss on the Kemp deal they made last year.

2016:

2B - Kipnis (L)
SS - Lindor
LF - Brantley (L)
1B/DH - Santana (S)
RF/DH - Kemp
C - Yan Gomes
RF/DH - Chisenhall/Swisher (L/S)
3B - Urshela
CF - Holt/Ramsey/(Jose Ramirez - offseason switch?)

They would have to kick in quite a bit more money for me to do it.

Not that the Indians are planning on being big players in free agency any time soon, but if they pick up Kemp's contract that basically eliminates most/any money they might have put towards free agents in the 2016 offseason when Bourn and Swisher expire.

You'll still get the savings from Swisher's expiration in 2017. I don't know that I'd want them getting MORE extended on another free agent TBD.

To only be on the hook for 3/50 for Kemp as a right-handed bat at that point may seem like a steal, especially when you get to keep him healthier in the AL. Not to mention park factor.

Well, they need to add an impact bat in the worst way for 16. I assume the padres would ask for a higher tier prospect in return.
