He's at AAA now

Sands was called up

I looked him up, his stats suggest he'd fit, rather than fit out with the team.

Pretty much a straight money move. Almonte in the grand scheme of things is meaningless.

Indians decided they would rather pay Crockett, Roth or Soto the league minimum to be the LOOGY the rest of 2015 and 2016 than pay Rzepczynski 3.5M which is around what he'll get in arbitration this winter.

Don't be surprised if they do the same thing with Shaw this offseason.

Jerry Sands being called up makes me think that Raburn still could get moved.

Lonnie was called up to replace Moss, and since Tito loves having as many people as he can in the bullpen, I'd expect to see Giovanni Soto up to take Zep's spot in the pen.

The biggest difference between Shaw and Zep is that Shaw is still good at his job. We might trade him, but I doubt it'd be in a straight cash dump.

@AZ_ @macbdog @anybodyelsewhoknowsminorleaguers

What is an Abraham Almonte and what does he do?

I remember him from a few years ago when we he tore up AAA (after he was traded by the Yankees to the Mariners)...not sure what happened to him. He's a short, stocky guy who can run, but his power pretty much disappeared since 2013...he's a switch hitter (not really better from 1 side or the other), and was nearly a 1 WAR player as a UTIL man last season in only 59 games...guy who doesn't move the needle one bit.

I like the move simply because it opens up the opportunity to get some of the younger bullpen arms up, instead of paying Zep close to 3 million next year. Really want to see some of the AAA/AA relievers like Gio Soto, Shawn Armstrong, Trey Haley, Jeff Johnson, and Enosil Tejeda make their way through to see what we have there. A lot of quality relievers stacked up in AAA and AA that we have to sort out.

I agree that Shaw would/should draw more of a return prospect wise than Scrabble, but the thought process is still the same.

No reason for a small market team to pay 3M+ for production they can get for 500k.

1, we have no idea what his salary will be next season, but he's not even making half of that figure right now, which leads me to believe his arb figure won't be over 3M for next season. Plus, for what he gives us, 3 million is a fine deal...not sure why you think that is an overpay.

2, are you so sure we can replace Shaw with a rookie or less proven guy? 3.4 bWAR, 1.6 fWAR(54th best out of all relievers) guy in his 3 seasons with us so far, 43rd among all relievers in ERA over that time (though advanced stats like FIP(71st), xFIP(81st), and SIERA(93rd) don't seem to like him as much), 40th in ERA-...think of how many relievers there are in baseball, and this guy is always towards the upper 3rd in pretty much every stat when looking over the last 3 seasons...and what's impressive about that is he is 3rd over that time in appearances and 6th in IP. Guy would be pretty tough to replace with a 500K player.

Shaw has actually been effective and has a bigger role. They also have not had anyone step up to take his role. Smith was let go because they felt they had options. I think unless Shaw gets crazy expensive he sticks around.

Tito likes to have two LOOGIES, so I child see them still pursuing one in the off-season. Hopefully at least one materializes from Soto, Crockett, Roth, House and even that Acquino guy. Otherwise this club will have some issues.

Earlier in the year Rzep had an average vs lefties over .300, so he had improved as of late if that is the current #. But yeah, he wasn't consistent at all.

What let down of a trade deadline. We had all this promise of getting offensive help for Carrasco and all we see is Danny Almonte or whoever that guy is.
