Trade Deadline Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Raburn I get by why Rzepczynski? Hagadone might be Haga-done and Crockett has been mediocre to bad, coupled with a considerable drop in velocity. I know he has had some struggles but Francona uses two loogies and I'm just not sure a. who they fill both spots with and b. that they get anything other than cash in return anyway. Just my thoughts there.

Want Zep gone just to see Gio Soto

While there is always a chance, I disagree with the bold part currently. If you have noticed he has a solid stat line in AAA, have you also noticed that he has been playing the corner OF spots there as well? He is being called up today, following the Moss trade, to replace Murphy/Moss' role against righties. With us all but out of things, might as well see if he can be of use in the OF.
I'm all for giving the kid a shot elsewhere on the field, considering he isn't a good 3rd basemen.

Personally, not a big fan of his, but if he can hide in the OF(if thats possible), then I'm open to seeing what he can do.

But I honestly have little to no hope with him. Take away his 2 months of insane baseball, he is awful at the plate.

He's pretty bad as an everyday I hitter, I can agree there. But in a platoon role only against righties? I'm willing to see if that helps him, like it did early on last season.

Rzep doesn't need to be gone to get Soto a shot though.

Yes, it would most likely need to happen. Soto isn't on the 40 man, so a guy getting traded and opening a spot on it would help in a major way. Same reason why Jerry Sands isn't being called up after we traded 2 OFers.

Unfortunately he makes $2.25mil this year and will likely be closer to $3mil next year. That's a lot for what he's likely to provide - especially with Naquin, Walters, Ramsey, Holt all in the wings in RF. Plus Zimmer down the road (I realize some of those guys will be in CF, too.)

I mean, we were just paying Murphy and Raburn 6 million and 3 million respectively to be our 4th and 5th OF options...

I just had him as contender-bait since his contract is up at the end of the year, although I do think we can offer him arbitration for 2016.

I still have high hopes for Crockett, despite struggles this season. Hagadone definitely could be done, and even if he isn't, he's not a great option anyways.

Lefties in the immediate minor leagues include:
- Giovanni Soto
- T.J. House, if we ever want to try him out in the bullpen similar to McAllister.
- Nick Maronde, who has been unspectacular at Triple-A.
- Ryan Merritt, who is having a solid season down in Akron, although he projects as a starter.
- Shawn Morimando, ditto to Ryan Merritt.

40 man currently stands at 39, with one spot occupied by the A ball lefty they just claimed. Aquino could be DFAd if Tomlin needs to come off. Also Michael Roth is on the 40 man and can be jettisoned too. Other options instead of Rzep.

All around win for the Dolans.

Not so fast...

They had to donate Murphy+cash for a guy that probably won't even see time here?

Guess with the Moss trade you are right. Still doesn't change the fact that I wouldn't mind it one bit if Zep is dealt (considering he is due for another pay raise this off-season). Dude's been real disappointing this year, would like to see what some of the AAA relievers have that we haven't seen yet if we are starting to roll youth through.

Power is sexy. Also Cards were moderately desperate, when Murph was traded they still had Holliday. Brandon Moss, esconsed in a lineup with a winner, might finally find his groove and go off. I like Kaminsky- any time you can add a Jew at a discount you do it- but I think the folks thinking this is a big steal might want to wait on the celebration.

Gomez and Fiers from Milwaukee to Houston. That's a big upgrade in CF for Houston. Surprised Houston gave up prized OF prospect Brett Maverick Phillips-- he was previously untouchable.

Astros had no issues with Gomez's hip. Mets doing Mets things....
