Trade talk already hot and heavy - Chad Ford

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There are a lot of good PF/C's that might show up on the trading block this season--

Shawn Marion
Lamar Odom
Channing Frye
David Lee

And if the Cavs can't get any of those guys, Boozer, Ike Diogu and Darko are also floating out there as desperation choices.

Putting aside all the hate for Loozer.. Hes a great player and I'd love him on my team. However, with him being able to opt out of his contract this off season.. Should we take another risk? I don't know, seems kinda risky. However, not like we lose a lot.. Maybe a top draft pick or whatever. I'd love Marion as well.

I don't know why more people do not like this....he would solve one our big issues on this team, scoring from our bigs.

Brown loves to pick and roll with our four man, however, our four men can't score. Andy, Ben, Hickson, and others that we play at the four are incapable of scoring. So when we pick and roll, they just double Lebron without any care to the picker.

Insert Odom and we have the success we had with Gooden as the picker, but at a greater rate. Odom can shoot from the outside, dribble and post up and score willingly. He struggles at times in the West because the PFs there are so talented. Somebody else mentioned this, but Bosh, Brand, KG and others in the east is not a tall task.Bosh is frail, Brand is not as athletic and KG is not the same KG.

Odom would be wildly successful with this team because of his ability to score.

I would guarantee a championship if he was on this roster.

odom is one of the most talented players in the league but also one of the dumbest ones too.

Sounds like another guy we had....Rat tail Gooden.

I dont think anyone would be disappointed if we had Odom on our squad. I'm guessing the pessimism is that he will be getting toward the tail end of his career and his production may fall away. I think he would be good here, but to what extent do we go to to bring him in? I doubt too many would be willing to give up our young core (West, Gibson, Mo, Hickson) to attain him.

What is Odom's contract situation?

Odom definitly a guy I wouldnt say no to. But you just gotta wait and see whos available in February.

Plus, the Lakers are without a doubt the best team in the NBA when healthy. So they aint exactly gonna be giving up a star player like Odom for expiring contracts. It would take Wally and another key player plus a draft pick.

I see he is expiring. We cannot give up much then as he is a short term loan. Wally makes some sense for both teams although we'd have to sweeten the deal somewhat.

Odom is another major scoring threat added to our team. It would also make us much better if, and I hate to say this, LBJ went down for a few weeks.

I've always liked his game when he is on. He is Gooden-inconsistent though. As our roster currently stands, I don't see much consistency at the 4 anyways.

If they are willing to take one of our (Wally) guards (would prolly take a pick as well), I would seriously consider it.

The problem with Odom in comparison to Gooden is that Gooden was a guy that was content with what was available to him... Odom (albeit not a star) is a guy that disappears due to a lack of looks or involvement in the action...

He is not someone we can plug in our PF spot and be okay with... He is a SF in a PF body..

A nice passer and ball handler... Sure, you can isolate him at times and let him take his man off the dribble, but that's not what we need from our PF... Odom does his best work at the top like LBJ, but in this case, you're going to have a ton of standing around with these guys looking to isolate within this offense...

The fact that Odom is complaining in an offense that is predicated on his strengths in Los Angeles is alarming to say the least..

The only reason I would be intrigued with Lamar Odom is because he's a guy that can rebound and pass from the post... The problem is getting him in the post without trying to face up and take his man, cause that's all he tries to do in the post... Outside of that, he's useless here...

The Lakers would never do a Wally for Odom swap, because both contracts are expiring, and Odom is twice the player Wally is, right now. I honestly can't see something that would work out for the Lakers. They're not going to rush to trade Odom for an expiring and picks, because Odom already is expiring, and they have a solid enough core to compete for years. If anything, I think they'll let this year play out, see what they can accomplish as a full team, and go from there. (As in, resigning him or not.) Odom has said he could see himself retiring as a Laker, so taking a paycut to play for them isn't out of the question.

Odom is expring and makes $11M and some change.

He never seemed to blend well with Kobe, and always seemed to have his best and most assertive games when Kobe wasn't in the lineup or was deferring. Some of that is because he likes to play a more complimentary style and take what the defense gives (sort of like Walton for that matter) ... whereas Kobe seems to need some guys who are more assertive.

Is it the same for LeBron? Dunno. We've never really had that "dilemma", but until proven otherwise I think LeBron could share the ball. Having multiple players who can score, pass and create *should* be a blessing.

I'd be fine with Odom being acquired. Is a productive versatile player and can do more than any other Cavs PF right now. A problem with the perception of Odom is that many expect him to be a dominant superstar but he's not. He's a very good complimentary player who can play off a superstar.

Be great to have him but I don't see it as a realistic possibility.

Unfortunately for many of the Cavs hopeful, it takes two teams to make a trade... and the Lakers are not gonna trade Lamar for our stiffs... (read that as Wally World).

They feel they are in the championship mix and have only a few more good years of Kobe at his peak... so they don't want a project, they probably don't want cap space instead of a solid player, and they do want someone who would make them better THIS year.

Again, for the Lakers, Wally instead of Lamar is not going to make them better... so why would they do it? The same reason that would make this a great deal/steal for Clev is the same reason it makes it a bad deal for LA.

LA might ask for AV first, and then other low end Cavs players to match contracts. AV can be a starter, he can do the dirty Kurt Rambis thang for them, and if there is still bad feelings between Ferry and his agent- this gets him out of Dodge.

So would AV make them better than having Lamar? I don't know... but he's a lot more attractive to the Lakers than Wally would be. Or Big Ben.

Maybe theres a chance we could work a 3 team deal with miami involved. I cant really figure out a deal but maybe someone else can.
