Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I agree with almost everything, but honestly lately Allen has been playing mean and with an edge. Not sure if that is Tristan's influence, but just play Allen 48 minutes a game, lol....ok maybe we need to play Jones some of that time or bring in Bismack, but can we atleast try 48 mins for Allen first? lol
Sure, just run the wheels off him in time for the playoffs.

I have been looking around at Stretch 4/5 players and the market is not great at all. The one I thought was gettable at a decent price went to NY with OG. I have brought him up before, but if the Cavs could manage a way to get Reath, that would be amazing. Not sure exactly how they would accomplish that though. That guy has been for the Blazers what CPJ has been for us, but they suck so they give him playing time.

You had me at Blazers backup center.

This is a little bad news but happening at a great time. Give Pete Nance some time at the bottom of the rotation. Then slip in Isaiah for a week. By the time our young prospects wear out their welcome, the trade deadline is around the corner.
I am good with all of this. TT will be back with 14 games or so before the playoffs. He plays 12 minutes a game. But he can be an asset in the playoffs. Meanwhile let’s see what we have in Brobley and nance. This could easily be a great thing

Lets say Evan comes back in 2 weeks from Friday, that is 9 more games.

Just need someone to hold the fort down for those 9 games and JBB hopefully can stagger the time of Evan and Allen to cover backup center minutes.

A combination of Jones, Nance, Isaiah, maybe Wade and maybe a different 10 day contract, lets say Bismack even can do the trick I hope.

Obviously not ideal, but before the season we expected Jones to be the backup and TT to be emergency big, so hopefully it works. Its only 15 mins a game for the next 5-10 games, but it is a big 15 minutes.

It is a big 15 minutes. No one saw TT contributing as much
But it is about 12 minutes a game. Mobley will be back soon. And it is a time to see what I Mobley, Nance have, and what James has left.
Hopefully JBB will not panic and just go with more Niang and Wade. It is worth playing I Mobley and Nance some just to see if anything is there. What if we uncover another Merrill or CPJ ? James looked fairly good the other night albeit vs Orlando reserves. But I think we can get by with 3-4 minutes of each per half and skate by.

As to TT, I hope he stays in the other bigs ears, to keep playing with an edge
Also, he will come back with 14 games or so to play. Plenty of time to shake the rust and be ready to contribute in the playoffs. Maybe this is a blessing as it keeps him fresh for later in the season

TT can’t play in the playoffs shooting 33% from the line. I’d foul him on every trip. He might be allowed to play in the first half but in a close game late 3rd / early 4th I’d foul him every time.

He’s got to make 50% or it won’t work.

ok, your saying his suspension is no big loss
I do think he has use though in the playoffs. For sure you might have to limit time in the ends of close games but I feel like his value is giving JA and Mobley a blow in the 1st half or 2nd early half to save them for the end of the game. I also think his experience in high leverage games comes in handy for JA and Mobley

Not at all - we’re definitely hurt in the regular season as only one team has tried hacking him so far that I recall. I’m saying stakes are higher in the playoffs and what works in the regular season may not work in the playoffs (Captain Obvious shit there). Our reserves can shoot the lights out and I’m not convinced even playoff defenses can shut that down. If it’s a choice between giving Merrill, Niang, Mitchell or Garland a chance to unload a three or hacking Thompson there’s no way in a close game an opposing coach doesn’t send TT to the line.

The dude has already fed Chick-Fil-A to the people in Philly and Orlando with his awful FT shooting. I called that at Wells Fargo arena went he went to the line.

So if we’re going to play him in playoff games I agree - play him early. We don’t want the man Ben Simmonsing the team.

TT was never gonna play in the closing minutes of a close game anyway. He's an energy big.

Cavs are eligible to get a temp roster spot for Tristan after 5 games without waiving him, but they already have a free roster spot after the Rubio buyout, so not such a big deal right now. Cavs also have about 3.1 Mil space under the luxury tax after the Rubio buyout, so the Cavs could pick up someone at any time, but I suspect they want to keep the roster spot and the salary available through the trade deadline to keep other options open. I imagine Damian Jones is going to get some burn in the short term.

That's the bigger question. Cavs need a vet leader in the front court with some attitude because Mobley and Allen suffer from being too nice sometimes.

RE: the Rubio roster spot, we still need to convert CPJ, right? I don't think that's been sorted. We need to replace a backup PG and a backup C. So two spots are needed. I actually didn't know that it opened up a roster spot after 5 games. That being said, what's the cost/benefit of keeping Tristan on the roster if we're able to find someone in that time who does what we need? Stuff like this also puts a sour taste in my mouth. Maybe I need more education on the matter but it seems like he knowingly took PEDs to make him stronger and get an unfair advantage.

I feel like it doesn't need to be a vet that bodies up players. I do think Allen has learned from his mistakes, but it's not like Mitchell Robinson is a vet. He just has a more banger play style and that's what we need as a backup. I still think people are crediting Tristan WAYYYYYY too much for the run we've been on. A high energy guy who can get a board is all we need. We need the Delly of centers. Tristan did that, but he's really not the only player who can do that.
