Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I just have to wonder at rewarding a team that hasn't won anything yet. This isn't just a knee-jerk reaction to last night- but why kill any flexibility you have now by tieing yourself into something longterm with a guy who really should be the first big off the bench? That is just insane IMO.

Utah is really going to regret some of the deals they've made recently IMO

37$ mil+ per year for Favors, Gordon and Burks....not that having a young core is bad but I figured Burks would be the one not getting an extension until the summer depending on Exum
I disagree that Utah will regret it. What other way do they have to acquire talent than the sign their own drafted players? No top FAs will go to Utah. If they trade for a superstar, the short NBA contract length don't provide them with security that the superstar would stay. Burke and Exum won't be due for paydays for 3-4 years and by that time the Hayward, Favors, and Burks deals will either be off the books or modest in comparison to the 2017 salary cap figure. Utah did what was right for the dynamic of their market.

TT got a steady diet last night of what to expect from opposing teams. As soon as he entered the game they post up his man. Wasn't hugely impressed with his post defense. He let's his man get way too deep on the weak side. Offensively he did as per usual on limited looks.

The salary cap is going to jump real soon. The number of players on each roster isn't.

That means that the old ridiculous is going to become the new normal soon.
Right now if TT got 11 mil, it would be 17% of the cap. Thats quite a bit when LBJ & Love will each get 30% of the cap. However, if the cap jumps to only $75 mil in two seasons, then he is at 14% of the cap. If it makes it up to 85 mil (which many are saying it will be year 1 of the new TV deal), it will be 12% of the cap. That 12% of the cap today would be 7.8 mil. It seems pretty fair in the long run.

Let's not forget the cap isn't some concrete thing. You're allowed to go over the cap as much as you want. We shouldn't care what these guys are making, cause dans already made it clear he's not afraid to pay the penalty if needed. If it costs 12 mil/yr to keep Tristan so be it, if they really feel they need him

Since I haven't heard anything, I'm going to assume the Cavs and Tristan weren't able to come to terms on an extension.

11:59 is the deadline. Still have time.
