Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
except a smll concession isnt around 50million dollars, puts a stranglehold on what we can do in the future, and Tristan Thompson doesnt exactly guarantee us a championship.
C'mon man, who would even think that any championship is a guarantee? Having TT is increases our odds. By what percentage, I don't fucking no but I know that with him starting and replacing Love in the playoffs, it took us all the way to the Finals. That's one hell of a fucking insurance policy if you ask me. And TT was never a virus on the team when he lost his starting job and that should be commendable.

I don't think anyone is worried about Gilbert's money, just the impact on team flexibility if he gets overpaid.

Definitely that. But I also hate that on a team with LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, we still have to overpay role players.

This. Isnt this like the best path to success and shouldnt other ring chasers be enticed to take less money to join us ? Also if we do sign Sasha Kaun - Then what leverage does Thompson have ?

I think the elephant in the room is, how pissed will lebron be if we don't agree to get bent over by rich Paul and TT?

Griff has to be careful because it sets a precedent as well.

Best we can probably hope for is some middle ground where Rich Paul can claim public victory but we don't get crippled with a contract that is untradeable .

Thankfully, it seems the FO has taken the stance of not caving to TT. In the grand scheme of things, he's not worth anywhere near the money he's asking for. Keep in mind, this guy might average 24 mpg or less this year (depending if AV can play).

TT has arguably the best PF in the game ahead of him and a potential All-Star ahead of him at C, who also happens to be an FA next year as well.

TT is getting stuck in no-mans land as a player. Horrible FT shooter, little to no offensive game, no shooting ability, not really tall enough to play C, and a marginal defender.

I know many people point to TT's ability to switch on the perimeter, but I honestly think it puts the team at a disadvantage. He's not particularly good at recovering, and if memory serves me correct, opposing guards really started attacking him in the playoffs with a good amount of success.

TT and Paul will never get the money they want from the Cavs as long as Love and Moz are around. It might be hard to replace TT's youth, but in reality it's not as impossible to replace his production as some here make it out to be.

If he wants a contract based on draft position alone relative to his class, then I'll give him a little raise over Derrick Williams... ;)

But seriously, I'd rather lock Mozgov up than TT.

Definitely that. But I also hate that on a team with LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, we still have to overpay role players.

It's not about overpaying role players.

Guys like Moz and TT on a capped out team with a big 3 have a ton more leverage than normal because both the team and the agent know we are capped out and if the players were to walk they would be replaced by veterans minimum type guys.

It is total win now, and everyone in the room knows that the Cavs won't lose a guy over a few million a season knowing they can't replace them easily.

If TT really were to decide to play for the qualifying offer I think you look into trying to move him now. Even if it is a bluff, you can't run the risk of getting nothing for him if Rich insists on continuing to play hardball.

Call their bluff. Tell them you will look into moving TT before the season starts if they won't commit, and that might help break up the log jam.

Rich knows that TT would look far more human this season without Lebron /Kyrie on the court with him, and if he were to be exposed the blowout payday dream dies.

You just can't go into next off-season with Moz and TT scheduled to be unrestricted FA's, as it drives up the price on both and makes it likely you lose one anyway.

LBJ will look like a straight asshole if he leaves Cle because his boy didn't get overpaid by 15 mil..TT needs to wake up and know his place

It already looks bad. The elephant in the room is that Tristan Thompson is signed with LeBron's agency. People can talk about how Rich Paul is this and that all they want but this is LeBron's gig.

I don't feel sorry for Gilbert's pockets, I feel sorry for the team and how it sort of puts a damper on any future wiggle room from an organizational standpoint. If we overpay for Thompson maybe that hinders another transaction in terms of needed depth we may or may not need to add throughout the course of a season.

It just doesn't seem right. I'd say let the guy walk but then you worry about LeBron's 2nd year player option. The team is between a rock and a hard place, don't step on the Kings toes or else...

Totally different situations. Miller was purely a cost-cutting move, and if I remember correctly, it didn't really save them that much money. TT could be potentially crippling in terms of future flexibility as well as the ability to retain Moz. Arison was just being cheap and was trying to save a few bucks. Not even remotely close situations.

Offer him 5/80 with performance incentives of up to 5/94. He gets the whole thing if his free throw percentage gets above 80% :chuckle:

Finally Griffin is doing a Riley and doing what's right

Inmates don't and shouldn't run the asylum

If you don't play for the love of the game then get off my team

Hope that this is just a damn ploy where they take us to a level where 14-16m a year is a whole lot better than a reaching 18m LMA levels.
