@gourimoko looked at me wrong once, but it felt so right...
I carry on my person.
For you to say that it's OK for you or anyone else to be violent if someone calls them a name is the reason why people fear - ironically - people like you who carry guns.
Insults beget violence because you have no self control.
That's what this debate is about.
I miss the good ole' days (I'm 32) when you could just get in a fight and one person won, the other lost, and that was it. I've was in a couple fights in high school (grad. 2001) and that's how it went. There didn't used to be this huge shame in losing a fight. At least you fought and defended yourself, stood up for yourself.
The biggest thing that scares me about this scenario in today's society is the open willingness to pull a gun. You can't just beat someones ass, get your ass beat, or somewhere in between. It seems like someone has to "win" and if you beat someones ass, they will pull a gun. Get a moment of road rage and call someone an expletive, they don't just curse you back and move on, they follow you and pull a gun.
Today, with a wife and daughter that depend on me, I fear having to fight someone because of this. People are fucking crazy nowadays and there is no gaurantee that a simple disagreement won't lead to someone pulling a gun and getting stupid....

enough wrinkles, who are we burning at the stake?Sorry for the on topic post, but an assistant coach was just put on leave for possibly suggesting retaliation against the ref. He's the defensive back coach. He allegedly told his players - "that guy needs to pay for cheating us" after the ref ejected two players.
I can safely say there is no single thing someone could SAY to me OR my wife and kid that would lead to me fighting them. The first thought in my mind wouldn't even be whether I could take the guy. It would be a flash of all of the horrible outcomes of me fighting him, including getting sued, getting jumped by his friends, getting shot, getting severely injured or dying, etc. There would be one positive outcome... Me beating the guy up. And that doesn't get me far enough to take the other risks. And this also wouldn't impress my wife as we've been through the macho defense bullshit before and she absolutely hated it. She's too rational for it.
I'd simply remove myself, wife and/or kid from the situation.
I understand why others would fight under the same circumstances I wouldn't. But that's your lives to lead and consequences to deal with. Whatever.
With that said, I'd have a very difficult time not beating the shit out of someone if they intentionally hurt my wife in any sense. But then I have the self- defense excuse at my hands.
If anyone intentionally hurt my son in any serious manner ie molestation, rape, etc I would find a way to kill them without getting caught. And I do say that with 100% confidence. I would prefer to be able to torture them for an extended period of time, but killing someone while looking in their eyes would work.
