It's a fair answer. The guy has been playing professional team basketball, then got tossed into the individualistic mess that is summer league.
It’s weird that wemby was so much more hyped than Luka even though Luka had a far better resume coming into the league

yeah the hype really seems like it’s too much for the level of player he looks like at the moment. He’s got a very high potential because of his size but I doubt he gets closer to it. Scoot would’ve been a safer pick imo.
He should be able to make an immediate impact defensively but he’s very raw offensively. He wants to play like a 7’4 KD but KD had an elite shot right away. Wendy looks slow and very weak. Not great in the post either. He was getting tossed around by fellow rookies. He also talked in the postgame about how tired he was when he’d go to the bench. That’s all more concerning than him going 2-13 from the field.
Think he’s a big work in progress. Which is fine, he’s a teenager. But with great hype comes immediate expectations.

It has been so much hype about this dude for a year already. Wemby came to States, Wemby piss on the floor , Wemby attended a game, Wemby took a dump, Wemby this, Wemby that and the guy looked nothing but Anthony Bennet at his very first summer league game lol. There`s just too much about some skinny, tall and slow dude around NBA. He did not even sniff the real NBA game yet,Im not saying he will be another top pick failure, but its really annoying seeing all the things focused around this kid. Let him spend 1-2 years to see what he worth before singing the praises.

The last few days have been an embarrassing reality check for this kid. Now's the time for him to get away from the glitz and drama of celebs who are old enough to be his mom, and focus on his game and conditioning.

As for Wemby I am sure he will be fine. He's Mobley but actually unicorny in that he's even taller, even lankier, and will likely be a better shooter and dribbler.

Just based on how he was moving in the 20+ minutes he played last night, it looked to me like he’s going to be better offensively than Mobley and possibly a better shot blocker due to sheer height, but he doesn’t have Mobleys defensive BBIQ or his fluidity and speed of movement on defense. That’s what allows Mobley to defend the perimeter so well. Wemby looked more Gobert-like in that respect
I’m of course massively overgeneralizing from one game…

How do you forget how his guards slapped fake Britney Spears?
Wemby will be very good, possibly great, if he stays healthy. But staying healthy at that size has been the exception. The summer league is not a place for guys like Wemby to shine so I don't expect him to look great if he plays more. And if anyone wants to see the difference between even the NBA Summer League level guys and France, you could see it in his first game. The speed and strength of the defenders had him all out of rhythm.

Or, you could say that the lack of anything resembling the kind of normal offense in which he's used to playing put him at a disadvantage in Summer League, which is pretty much just playground ball. And he didn't grow up playing American playground ball.
Long-term, that's probably an advantage.

We have a "young savant/prodigy" bias in society, it's odd, you see it in basically everything from music to sports to business, but I'm the end it's always the war of attrition that wins out. I guess we'll see if he can stay healthy and fight through what will likely be a ton of adversity, perhaps more than most.
