"I'm not convinced the Cavs have the right roster," Walton says, noting the team's heavy reliance on high-priced specialists like Damon Jones and Donyell Marshall.

"I mean, you've got a 6-9 power forward [Marshall] who, on offense, stands at the 3-point line all the time," Walton says. "What is that about?"

We do have glaring holes without a true big behind Ilgauskas, and a speedy guard who can penetrate. However we do have unique talents in Ilgauskas and James who do their best to overcome this. Walton's comments on Marshall are too often true though.

That's why he is a broadcaster and not a coach...

When I watched the recent ABC game (I think thats the one, maybe ESPN). He said "Why is Donyell Marshall shooting 3's?"

Maybe he doesnt realize Donyell is a good 3pt shooter and tied the record for most made. Our PF is shooting 3s because thats what he was brought in to do.
Gooden doesn't shoot 3s (well sometimes when he has a mental slip he does).

The broadcasters for national games are either too pro-Lebron or too anti-Cavs.

I think it's more of him commenting that Marshall tends to camp out there rather than post up, or be ready for boards... I personally have no problem with this floor spreading, as long as he hits those shots, as he has been.

Now it's heavy reliance on shooters? Or LeBron? What's going on?

Walton is a joke. But in recent years, I think even he's aware of this and plays into things by seeming to take himself serious when he's probably laughing hard on the inside. In light of that, I view him as a comedian opposed to a serious analyst.

walton makes some suspect statements. but he is a hall of fame player who had great success in both college and the nba. he knows more about what it takes to play winning team basketball than most people, be they fans, media, players or coaches.

one thing that he does better than almost any other analyst, player or coach is elucidate the components that he believes are required for a team to win. when he states these, he is clear, firm and hard to disagree with. the only quibble that i have with his serious commentary on team basketball is that, like many centers, he over states the importance of the center position. set that aside and disregard his off the cuff comments made in a playful fashion, he is one of the more knowledgeable commentators in the media. it is no accident that he (on tv) and jack ramsey (on radio) will frequently make identical comments when they work the same game.

of course some people prefer the insight of chipper jones, steve kerr and charles (i'm gonna run for gov'nur) barkley.

actually it would be pretty easy to refute walton. just compile that long list of teams that have won nba championships with a three point specialist for a power forward.

I remember hearing him complaining about Donyell parking outside the paint, but that's his game. With one of the best offensive rebounders in the leauge in Z, Donyell can park out there all he wants.

walton also said boris diaw(i know i know had a trip dub last night) was one of the greatest players ever out of france,he said eddie house is one of the greatest scorers in the nba.he says a lot of things, hes an idiot.

Don't Rasheed/Horry/Dirk play the same way? I guess the Pistons/Spurs/Mavericks don't have the right roster either?

I agree with Walton to an extent....61% of Marshall's shot's are from 3-land, for me that's too high. I'd prefer he be around Rasheed(40%). Dirk only take's 18% from behind the line(Horry takes 47%).
Donyell is a great rebounder and he can play inside, so his overall game would be more effective if he moved inside the line a little more often and crashed the boards....his shooting would improve too.

For the record, 75% of DJ's shots are 3's. His 36% is 112th in the league in 3FG%, Marshall is only shooting 32% which is 160th in the league....they're hardly "specialists" this year.

Walton is an idiot: he seems to have quickly forgotten about another 6'10" thin PF who stands out on the perimeter and is basically a 3pt specialist. His name: Robert Horry and that dude has what 6 rings now?

This is from a Roger Brown column. It seems a small part of what Walton said was picked out and put in the column.

I can't disagree too much with Walton. Marshall can shoot the 3 but many times he spends way too much time just camping out at the 3 point line. He's got a more versatile game than that which he needs to use more often. You also don't know if Mike Brown wants both Jones and Marshall to be out at the 3 pointl ine on most possessions.

Don't forget about the waiter (Tony Kukoc).Seems those Bulls won their share of titles too.I think Bill Walton has smoked his share of the herbal essence in his day.
