Of course Miller is an older player, and yes he was injured this year. Players get injured and have surgery. Most return, some don't. There are no guarantees.
However, as far as the better player, it really is not close. I went and got the stats, but I know it is useless to post them; those that are interested can look them up themselves.
Older is an understatement. He turns 32 this season and will be the ripe old age of THIRTY-SIX before his contract ends. A contract, btw, that is basically an albatross. Just what we need 4 years of a 30 something year old that has been injured both of the last two years. You really understate how much of a negative that contract is since it is guaranteed for 4 years.
You also understate his injury issues. He has only played in 95 games over the past two seasons. Plus, there is the matter of two different off season surgeries on this 31 year old ball player.
Plus, you keep trying to claim he is the better ballplayer. If this was actually true, at this point in his career, why would Miami want to trade him to us? Because he isn't that player any longer. I did look at those stats. 40% from the field sure looks great, huh? Really isn't so important what he once was able to do since he isn't that player any more. Not like a 31 year old is gonna get better. It is all downhill now.
Since this thread is about center acquisition, I just through something out there. However, it definitely appears that some folks are significantly inflating Gibson as an NBA player, probably because he's a nice guy, gave us some great moments while just a rook, is intelligent and well spoken, and pulled a top-flight celebrity wife. I like Boobie too!
You a used car salesman? You are here inflating Millers value without question. I put it to you again. If Miller was so darn good, why would they want the "inferior" Gibson? Plus, give us this "stupendous" center prospect?
However, even at their relative ages, I would still rather spend my five million on Miller at 75% than Gibson at 75% (and yes, he is usually at 75%); the difference in NBA SG caliber skill and stature is that great. And guess what--younger Boobie is just as injured and/or unavailable; even more so prior to this past season.
No, he's not. Gibson didn't just get multiple off season surgeries on his body.
Again, the objective here is acquiring the center prospect. IMO, you are actually taking MIA to the hoop if you can get Pittman--that's why its unlikely to happen. Hopefully Grant is not thinking like some here and hanging on to players with proven recurring injury problems for sentimental reasons. Gibson (and Varejao) must go!
The object here is to get a center for the right price. If Grant actually entertained your proposed deal, he'd be looking for a new job before he ever completed it. Not happening on Gilbert's watch. We are not handing them the missing sharpshooter they need. Plus, we are certainly not helping them out by getting them free of Miller's albatross contract.
