What are the Cavs going to do at C?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm still shocked some team gave a 1st for Hickson. Protected or not, Hickson isn't a winning player.

JJ at age 22 has no chance of ever improving his game and becoming a winning player, lol. JJ was younger than many of the players in this draft. JJ finally has a bit of a breakout year and is dealt. Perhaps this year JJ learns the intangibles and becomes a winning player? JJ has the talent, if a good coach an motivate him, he can improve again.

NBA IQ is one thing that rarely improves significantly overtime. I'm not saying he needs to know everything now, but I highly doubt he will ever "get it". He doesn't always play hard, inefficient scorer, poor defender, etc. He will be a fixture on losing teams for his career imo.

Z-Bo is the best player on the Grizzlies imo. He can score in multiple ways, has range and a sick rebounder. Not a great defender, but still better than JJ. He can also put up numbers playing his actual position. Hickson is at his best the C spot, and no good team will ever have him playing C for them. JJ is Chris Wilcox with more scoring ability imo.

Because we only do the deal IF Jonas is on the board, Jonas was gone so no deal

Except it doesn't work that way. We don't take somebody else's pick for them unless there is a deal in place - and we don't trade down in the first place unless there are more prospects available that we like than selections to be made.

looks like the Cavs are hoping to find a player in a deeper draft with the Kings pick that they received for JJ.

But in reality we know Sacramento didn't wait around to see how things played out and dealt the #7 pick before the draft.

What could happen is that he may find a team where they don't ask him to do things he doesn't do well -or- they have someone else who can cover for his weaknesses.

The Cavs want to raise the bar, so players who can't grow with the team or adapt to what's best for the team are going to be pushed over the rail.

What I am saying is that the Cavs on draft night had planned on drafting Irving at 1, TT at 4, and then dealing JJ and perhaps another asset for another lottery pick that they would then use to draft Jonas, but the Cavs would only do the deal if Jonas was on the board for their third lottery pick which he was not. So it does work this way. So when Jonas was drafted the Cavs decided to not do the draft day trade since the guy they targeted was gone.

It's a good story, and also pure speculation. Your avatar is a plus, though.

Isn't that the object of the draft captain obvious?

Yeah and rapture day will be coming soon.

He's not exactly going to a team with a winning culture.

I dont think it matters what jj does in Sacramento. The cavs have implemented their scheme. they are adapting an identity. JJ didnt fit in with that. so he is gone even though he may have had more value at midseason. the cavs didnt want to take the chance of long lockout leaving them with a rfa hickson who thy wouldnt get anything for.

to cap it off.. Hickson credits his own turn around because he was "tired of losing". Meaning if the cavs had been winning he would of continues to do things his way.

Center spot is good for the moment.
We had two and one you could plug in at the beginning of last season.
this season you have 3 and 2 you can plug in.

C is still a problem now and for the future. Varejao hasn't shown he can play major minutes at C for a full season. Erden is still an unknown and we don't know if he might be nothing more than an end of the bench player. Most of us have seen enough of Hollins.
Cavs have players to fill up the minutes but the quality of those minutes is another issue.

Cavs won't be competing for anything so they can get by for now. That's going to have to change within a few seasons. To me it still looks like it's going to have to be C by committee approach for a while since it might be difficult to find that one C to play heavy minutes at a fairly high level.

Why are people still talking about Jonas in this thread? I'm pretty sure he has nothing to do with what the Cavaliers are going to do at Center.

Varejao has just as many minutes logged in at center as power forward. I dont think any of the players have shown they can start a full season at a position they had injuries requiring season ending surgery that he would of had regardless of his position. .

Agreed. Agreed. Agreed.

There is a Jonas thread and it sucks the topic is dominating this one. Lets talk about Drummond or Gasol or cloning Shaq...

Anyway, look at the facts (not message board conspiracy theories), and you'll see this is at best a pipe dream, not a realistic plan.
