Why Larry Dolan Needs to Sell the Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
2011: 2.8mm
2012: 4.2mm
2013: 5.75mm
2014: 8mm team option

The reason that trade was so great in theory is that they got a potential ace that was very affordable and under team control. We'll see what becomes of the trade, but in theory its a great trade for a small market team like the indians. No use talking baseball economics with a guy that thinks MLB2K12 coincides with real life.

how do i think mlb2k12 coincides with real life?

$10 M is quite a bit to a small market team. No offense, but you're avoiding the question. If he doesn't care and he's just about the money, why not just stick with the cheap prospects? That's $10 M he could pocket otherwise.

Ok he tried a little to get fans in the stands and for us to win...but to say he for sure cares is redic...If He wanted to win he would of told the gm to go out and make a trade to get a starting pitcher and a right handed bat at the deadline when we were actually in contention!

10 mill over 2 or 3 years is not alot even to a small market team...lets not get dramatic

Good point...And whats the cleveland.com forums?

Go check it out, you'll fit right in. Signing Fielder or a free agent of his caliber is not only unrealistic but also franchise suicide. For the Indians to allocate that kind of money into one asset would mean that there are even less of the limited resources you have to fill other spots with quality major league starters. So say you sign Fielder to a ridiculous contract like the tigers did. What happens when your young core hits free agency? I'll tell you what happens; You rebuild... and hope the dodgers are high enough to take Prince and his TERRIBLE contract off your hands.

I don't think Grienke will sign here, only because I expect LA to keep him. But he is the rare free agent who probably wouldn't want to go to a larger market. The Indians would be a perfect fit, but he seems due for a gigantic, long-term deal this summer.

It has nothing to do with him wanting or not wanting to come here. What does adding Greinke accomplish? Say for some reason he signs a below market value contract around 5 years 80 million; What you've essentially done is patch one of your many holes while allocating a large percentage of your resources. Contracts like Willinghams are what the indians are looking for, anything more than that is too much risk, and you shouldn't want or hope for the indians to make a move like that.

If Dan Gilbert Was The Indians Owner Our Team Salary Would atleast be over 100 mill...With An Owner Like Gilb we could sign big names and keep our up and coming young guys...Gilb puts his money where his mouth is...If he was our owner things would be diff regardless of what size market...

I'm sure a successful business man like Dan Gilbert would lose millions of dollars just because the poor fans of Cleveland feel like they deserve a championship.

Gilbert would bring us a winner even if it ment he lost money! hes a boss!

He did that last season...so he cared last season but not this season...?

When you say he would spend... how much more do you mean?

idk 10-25 mill more in total seam salary which would put us in the top half of the league...Actually could afford impact players...

No trade at deadline this yr so he didnt care this year and it was clear we need a starting pitcher and a right handed bat in this left handed bat lineup

Right, I will tell you this right now, as long as Gilbert owns the Cavs, if he were to own the Indians, the payroll would be the same. You need to be more than a 2 billionaire in order to run two professional franchises.
