I guess I've always looked at it slightly differently.

Like okay, my character is a shmuck compared to the previous hero. But the point of the game is creating the story for my character to be even greater than the previous hero. While I've felt that my character was inferior earlier in the game, it made the character feel more authentic for overcoming his own obstacles. My DAI guy has united a nation, defeated 10 dragons, sealed the rift, and rebuilt the templars/circle in a better image. Did my DA2 character do half of that? Not a chance.

Did you stop a Blight though? (I haven't played DAI, btw). By comparison, DA2 felt weak compared to DA:O... Like, super fucking weak.

Also, Revan was damn near like Anakin/Luke levels of badass, and they made sure you knew it.

The Exile was always framed as being something less than Revan.

I don't get attached to a character. I get attached to the world. You can tell me a million stories from that world.

I think this is the big difference here.

To me, the protagonist is a huge part of the game. Very few games, for me, work without a strong protagonist and a deep story around him. Planescape: Torment, FFVI, FFXII, Phantasy Star, Morrowind/Oblivion and the Fallout series are a few examples that come to mind.

Skyrim is an example that doesn't work for me very well.

But give me a phenomenal protagonist with a deep story centered around that person and I think that's the ultimate trump card.

It's why I put FFX over FFVII as I got older. Tidus' story was just, better, even though FFVII's world was far more interesting; Tidus was the superior protagonist to Cloud (not saying Cloud was a slouch)...

Xenogear's Fei Fong Wong is the ultimate example of what I'm talking about.

DA2 was a much more limited area and focus. It was a shit game by all regards. But as far as what your DAI character does compared to stopping a Blight? Um, think of a Blight as a Skirmish and the Rifts as being global cataclysm because the Fade would become part of that reality.

Yeah, what your DAI character does trumps anything from DAO

You'll notice that Gouri and I agree but neither of us have done much (if anything) in DAI.

I don't think I necessarily disagree with you.

DA2 was hurt the same way that KOTOR2 was hurt. A certain shitty publisher pushing everything ahead of schedule and forcing a half finished game to be released.

I guess I'm just one for the lore more than I am anything else. Craft a world I fall in love with, and I'd play a million stories regardless of how big or small the scope.

And granted, I never played KOTOR or 2, so I don't get the references.

I'd buy an Xbox One just for a good Gears remake. Gears was my first multiplayer experience last gen so it'll always be special to me. I really haven't been into an online game since the first Gears. I played the second one briefly but I just wasn't feeling it.

After the MCC debacle, I'll wait for this to be released first though.

Is Joe Montana Football with 2K Sports Becoming A Reality?

"That’s why you haven’t heard anyone saying anything, but a lot of people are having a very hard time because what they seen was unbelievable and it’s been impossible to go back to Madden or even take Madden seriously after that. It’s like, how you felt when you had an NES and you saw Sega Genesis for the first time. The step up in quality is THAT big."
I forgot about this until I saw an advertisement for the new Madden. Turns out it's a mobile game Joe was hyping :chuckle:

the guy defending this sounds like he is about to cry.

A mobile game? What a fucking letdown.

Wii U has the best games for kids (and pretty much the only games geared toward kids that I can think of), but you wouldn't be able to play any of the mainstream big games.

I'd be interested to hear what you got and how it's going.

Got the xbone

love it. Have bought arkham knight and shadow of mordor. Got Ori in the bundle which my daughter likes to watch. Shes only 4 so is crap at actually playing. We also get all the free with gold games and a few of them a kid friendly platformers.

so far i'm pleased and psyched for phantom pain. got ground zeroes for free and was a little disappointed but the gameplay demos make it look incredibly detailed and fun

Ah, yes. I totally forgot about a lot of the indie stuff being more kid friendly.

Ground zeroes was weird in that it was basically like if they released the tanker mission from MGS 2 as a stand alone disc. Phantom pain is the one that is really going to let you take advantage of the new game play mechanics.

They did release the tanker mission as a stand alone disk. You just had to buy ZoE to get it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. That was designed more as a demo/teaser/way to get people to buy another game though.

It's not like they didn't include it on the MGS2 disc, which is actually what I thought they would do this time around as well. But they clearly decided that if a fan really wanted to experience the "whole" story then they would but it anyways.
