Your 2019 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Management put all their eggs in one basket: starting pitching.

I wouldn't call our 2 injuries to Kluber and Clevinger major, but those missed starts could very well show up at the end.

It'll be smart to call up Mercado and Bradley very, very soon. See what we have in them before making a decision on adding a bat at the deadline that won't interfere with them.

Team desperately needs power. Team also needs a spark.

They’re not going to bring up any rookie and expect them to contribute.

I’d imagine they’ll be active in bringing in a bat via the deadline once teams fall out of it.

Cargo into the DFA bin, find a corner OF piece that can hit, maybe a DH candidate who can as well.

Why wouldn't you call those injuries major?

I guess I can see not calling up Bradley yet, but Mercado is 24, has played mostly well since spring training, and has 162 AAA games under his belt. Why not see what he can do? By the time they make a trade or two in July they may be in a pretty big hole.

Clev is way ahead of schedule. Kluber has been a total horse, he could use some extra rest that maybe lessens his load for the stretch run. If Clev was out like we all thought, I'd call it major.

We have no idea yet if/when Kluber will be back, or what he'll be like if he does return. I know he didn't pitch well this year, but losing a guy that typically gives you 30+ starts and 200+ innings is a pretty significant blow.

For all the contention about the trades they made this winter, the Yan Gomes trade looks great right now.

Jefry Rodriguez has legit MLB stuff. Still rough around the edges and his peripherals aren't much to feel good about, but those will come with refinement. Has the stuff and the swing and miss pitches, just doesn't have full command of his stuff yet. Starting to remind me a lot of young Carrasco, pre trip to the bullpen. Young guy blessed with great stuff who is just going out there and throwing right now, as opposed to pitching. With what has happened to Clevinger and Kluber, they'd be in even more of a tough spot if they didn't have Rodriguez.

Daniel Johnson is a legit MLB prospect who is producing in AA and should be in Columbus by season's end.

And the PTBNL in the deal was Andruw Monasterio. He's hurt right now, but dude can hit. Can't hit for a lick of power, but he can hit. And perhaps even more valuable, he's a guy who can play all over the IF, and I think they eventually mess around with him in the OF (toyed with it this spring in some of the backfield games I watched). He's only 21 as well.

And then to top it off:

Yan Gomes: .233/.313/.337 77 wRC+
Roberto Perez: .220/.301/.390 83 wRC+

At all levels, to this point, it looks like the Indians committed highway robbery on this one, and that's not even factoring in the salary difference between Gomes and Perez. But that's only a month and a half into a season, can still change.

How is Monasterio's defense in the INF?

Tempering my expectations on just how much of an impact Mercado will have. He's a rookie, and this team needs more than just 1 upgrade to get where they need to go.

Excited to watch him, but not going to overreact to his play every day. Team is still far from being done roster wise if they want to contend this year.

Mercado likely is going to be up as long as Naquin is on the DL. Now if he hits well and everything, we may see them cut CarGo (if he is struggling) to keep him up on the everyday roster, but at the moment I just expect him to be up until Naquin is healthy. Also this will allow them to get Martin out of the lineup when there is a lefty on the mound since he still stinks against lefties and always will.

I don't actually expect much out of Mercado this season, but next year he has a good probability of being our everyday CF and right now we are all hoping for a spark in the lineup as well.

Why would Mercado get sent back down when of the three players you listed, two of them suck and one of them is unplayable against LHP. I think your take is extremely short-sighted and I'm not sure what it's supported by.

Every single reporter has said Mercado would be up for good in the near future, and here we are with him getting called up. I've read nothing that says it's only for 10 days or until Naquin comes back.

The Indians didn't want to call up Mercado unless he was going to get everyday at bats and it took an injury for that to happen.

He should stay up. I'm just not sure if the Indians are ready to move on from CarGo just yet, and Naquin has been one of their better hitters.
