Think of it this way...

The top 7 QB's in the league are pretty obvious and I think right now are some order of:

Tom Brady
Aaron Rodgers
Peyton Manning
Philip Rivers
Drew Brees
Ben Roethlisberger
Michael Vick

8- 15 is probably some order of:

Tony Romo
Matt Ryan
Joe Flacco
Matt Schaub
Eli Manning
Matt Stafford
Jay Cutler
Kyle Orton

He's not better than anyone in that top 7 and I personally don't think he ever will be. To be top 10, you'd basically have to say he could be as good or better than guys like Matt Ryan, Tony Romo, Eli Manning, Matt Stafford, Andrew Luck (probably) and so on. To be top 15, he'd just have to be better than guys like Ryan Fitzpatrick, Kyle Orton, Cutler, Bradford, etc.

I personally think he's an 11-15 guy in his prime, which would be better than anything the Browns have had since they came back. I'd take that.

I agree with the people who are saying he can be an above average QB. I don't know if he has the stuff to be a Top 10 QB but he has shown me thus far he can play in this league and is good enough to win you a good amount of ball games. Is he good enough to win you a road playoff game and go deep into the playoffs? Yet to be determined but I think given the proper weapons, he can get a team to the playoffs.

Top 10 is pretty good company in no particular order
Brady
Peyton Manning
Rivers
Breese
Rodgers
Vick
Romo
Matt Ryan
Roethlisberger
Eli Manning
Even if you debate a guy or 2 on the list, I would have a hard time making the argument that McCoy projects to be consistently better than anyone of these guys.

I've really liked what I've seen from Colt actually. He checks down a little too much, but that's probably just a product of none of his receivers being able to get open. He's looked a Hell of a lot better than anything we've had here recently and this is only his second year. The other thing I've noticed is that Colt has a tendency to hold the ball too long trying to make that pass and move the chains. It's just because he is competitive, he really wants to make the play. The thing is, when you hold the ball as long as he does it tends to lead to fumbles. Both of these problems I've mentioned can be fixed by putting more talent around him and just giving Colt a little more pro coaching.

Personally I think he has the potential to be pretty good. I could see him getting up there with Matt Ryan (who I think is overrated) in a couple years. Matt Ryan gets to watch Michael Turner run and he gets to throw it to Roddy White. I can see Colt being a Brees light. I don't think he'll ever be as good as Brees, but I think he will be similar in terms of style. He has the accuracy to do it, he just needs to have some actual targets to throw to.

I think his ceiling is Drew Brees-like with his leadership and ability to create with his accuracy. Will he reach the ceiling? I hope so.

colt mccoys ceiling is about where drew brees came into this league, dont kid yourself.

that said if he can be an average QB (that puts him somewhere between 12-18) it wouldnt be horrible. that said he might have 1 great season where he ends up a top 10 quarterback but he will never do it on a regular basis. below average arm strength and high winds do not mix well.

It is too soon to make a complete judgment but based on what we've seen so far and what he came into the league as and was projected as, McCoy looks like a legit NFL starting QB but probably a middle of the pack one. Don't see him ever among the top group of QB's.
He is in the right system now to get the most out of the ability, strengths and weaknesses he has. He isn't being forced to be something he can't be.

McCoy's numbers so far and very similar to those of Kosar and Sipe at the same point in their careers.

i can't find the article but trent dilfer said that he could see colt becoming the next drew brees. neither have the prototypical height for a QB but they are both accurate QBs. not saying that i agree or disagree with dilfer, but just felt like sharing what he had to say

Brees was always the best comparison for Colt McCoy because of body type and playing style. Colt is probably a better scrambler.

You can see Colt trying to emulate Favre lately though. I remember it was mentioned he worked with him before.

Colt McCoy CAN be Drew Brees. That is easily the best QB to compare him too. But the kid hasn't even had a full season yet! I view it as he is now two games into his career as being "the guy" - one game at a time.

Afew things that are important to note:

1. Colt targets his tight ends and runningbacks over 50% of the time. We can say this is because the recievers aren't elite, but I'm looking at that New Orleans and I don't see too many superstar recievers. Moore was undrafted, Colston was a 7th rounder, Henderson is a poorman's Dion Branch who is best running fly patterns, and Meachem has been a bit of a bust. Yet, Brees tries to get the recievers the ball. Colt will need to start doing the same.

2. Brees plays in a dome in a superb Sean Payton system. Let's see is Shurmer is cut from the same cloth, and let's see if it works in Cleveland's winters. One thing you have to respect about Favre and Rothlisberger is they would raise their games in bad weather. Colt is still under the gun on that front.

I like colt. Id rather have a guy who can throw an accurate 15 yard pass and a decent 40 yard pass (colt) over some jackass that can throw 70 yards but not make a 5 yard dump pass (Russell).

Allow me to say that they aren't ripping them.

They are saying that he'd be an above average QB.

The problem is the idiots listen to Rizzo who is putting words in their mouths.

If he's the 15th best QB in the league, isn't that pretty average?

I see some things that I like about Colt. I do think that he is a good fit in the WCO because of his accuracy. I also think he is a better than a backup.

But, a good point was made in that Cleveland is a poor town for Colt. His below average arm strength will make it difficult in the windy late season games. Plus, his small hands don't help with a wet ball either as we saw against the Bengals. It would've been better for him if he was drafted by a warm weather or domed stadium team. You could make the argument that Cleveland has the crappiest weather of all of the NFL teams.

Colt is probably fine with a younger emerging team as a caretaker. But, I can't see him being a franchise type guy leading anyone to a Super Bowl. I don't see him raising the level of a team like Elway did with the Broncos marginal talent in the 80s or like Big Ben does behind a crappy Steeler line.

At least he's not Mark Sanchez.

Sanchez really isn't a bad QB. His numbers are nothing crazy, but he has a knack for game winning drives and doesn't cost his team games for the most part.
