Texans' Record Watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well they’re in the same division. So they played 14 common opponents.

The AFC South obviously plays their own division and this year they played the AFC North/NFC West.

Outside of those common opponents, the Colts played the 8-7 Bills and the 5-10 Broncos. The Texans conversely played the 12-3 Patriots and the 9-6 Chiefs.

So for scenario sake.

Let's say the Bills and Broncos win, and the Chiefs lose.

(pats win)

Where's that out our SOS.

Anyone smoking the Kirk Cousins “hopium” needs to get a clue.

That dude isn’t going to the Cleveland friggin Browns in the prime of his career when he can go to any number of “contender with a QB” teams like Denver, Jacksonville, Pittsburgh if Ben retires, or simply get tagged in Washington for the third year in a row.

And frankly? It's a better move for him.

You can go ahead and trot out "BUT KANSAS CITY. BUT ALEX SMITH. "

That's fine. The Chiefs weren't a complete dumpster fire. You can argue they were 2-14 at that point, but they had a guy like Andy Reid you could sell Smith on, along with at least some semblance of a track record they could point to in the past 18 or so years of their franchise.

Yes this team has talent. It's young though and we're in the NFL's black hole at the moment. We're not getting SI covers, MNF/SNF games, We're not in the playoffs.

They see our record and that's it. Period. End of Story.

Here's what I recommend.
-Sign some linemen in free agency
-Draft a QB first overall
-Draft as much skill players as possible.

That's going to be the best route we can ask about right now.

Oh, it's the Browns pick, I'm sure they ball out, we get #6 and HOF players are drafted at #4 and #5.

Alternatively, we get #4, and HOF players are drafted at #5 and #6....

People “complaining” that the pick may end up at 5-6 and not 4 is fucking hilarious. We at the very least will have 2 Top 6 picks in yes, not a loaded draft, but will get 2 insane players at our draft position; plus more in the 2nd.

This is a gd Christmas miracle. Santa is literally giving CLE a reach around right now and some people are bitching he’s using his left hand.

The Chiefs also traded for Alex Smith, pretty much giving him no choice in the matter.

Well it’s pretty straight forward.

The Patriots and Chiefs have 21 combined wins.

The Bills and Broncos have 15 combined wins.

There’s only one week of games left.

There’s no way the Colts can finish with a stronger SOS than the Texans. Ergo, the Colts are locked into the No. 3 pick no matter what happens this week in their game.

I’m not “complaining”.

If you wouldn’t tell me the two teams playing, but just the situation and I was forced to bet my house on it.

Home Team has 1 less win less than away team.
If Home team wins, it won’t effect where they pick.
Home team is on 2nd string qb who played all year.
Away team has lost 5 in a row and 9 of last 10.
Away team playing with 3rd string qb, 4th string sustained concussion so they’ll have to sign a backup off the street.
The home team beat the away team earlier this year before away team totally decimated by injuries.

Much is in the home teams favor.

And yes, the Browns COULD offer him 40M+ a season if they wanted to, but they won’t and neither would anyone else in the NFL. You can’t give 25-30% of your salary cap to one player when you have 52 other spots to fill. It’s just not realistic.

Why would the Browns give Cousins 5 years, 200M when they can give Darnold/Rosen/Mayfield 4 years, 30M with a 5th year option?

The easiest way to have sustained success in the NFL is to find a quality quarterback for under market value (aka on a rookie contract) and load up the rest of your roster before he’s up for a huge extension.

This was Sashi’s plan. Get talent on rookie deals, add the quarterback on a rookie deal, and then spend our cap room to fill all the gaps to becoming a playoff team.

I agree that this is the ideal way to compete.

However, I’m at a point where I’m not sure I trust the Browns to develop a young QB.

I think Kirk Cousins or Alex Smith makes us at least a 7 win team next year. Competent QB play can do that for you.

Kirk Cousins is unlikely. However, we have more cap than we can use and this team is teetering a ledge right now of no return after 1-15 and 0-16.

QB/Minkah looking more likely every day.

Well, Cousins might have been the Moneyball play. Sign a veteran QB, then tradedown from that lovely No. 1 overall and rack up assets down the road. Take Minkah with 4. You've added your franchise QB, filled the biggest hole on defense, still have another first round and three second round picks this year, and probably add a first and a second next year as well.

Yeah, that would work nicely.

Moneyball would probably lead to taking a QB early because of the massive value difference in how much you pay for that QB versus a free agent QB.

Value is based on both cost and performance. A rookie is cheaper, but the performance side is always going to be something of a crapshoot.

So while you're right that drafting a young QB who actually becomes that stud franchise guy is the perfect scenario, it also leaves open the possibility that you're going to draft a QB. No. 1 who is a bust, and that's the franchise-crippler. Getting a fully mature sure-thing as your QB, when you have cap space and the chance for a huge tradedown, is pretty sweet. Instant turnaround. Plus, the Cousins/Gordon combo has some real possibilities.

That's at least the 2nd time in 2 days you used the word "Ergo"
