2020 Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
... So... The team petitioning to make sure Tristan gets resigned?

Followed up by Nance.

I'm all for bringing back to TT for sentimental reasons/leadership qualities. Didn't expect to see his teammates wanting it too.

My guess is Rich Paul has taken a survey of the market for TT and they know with the potential of the cap going down that TT's market isn't very good at all. I wonder if he even gets an offer for the full MLE. Getting him back on the Cavs most likely gets him paid the best.

People keep thinking that signing TT woudl be bad because you can't play him and Drummond. I will tell you what. If anyone is interested in Drummond learning some hard lessons and playing the right way, it is important to have TT on the team. JB can straight up yank Drummond for any stupid play and put in a guy who has owned him regularly in the playoffs and reg season. A guy he got his first 30 point game on. TT plays the right way and immediately comes in and makes it happen off the bench. Do that 20 tims and Drummond will either want to leave, or try to compete with TT. A motivated Drummond trying to steal minutes from TT would be the best possible scenario for him IMO> I started seeing it happen before the shutdown and I was praising JB about having TT end games. IF Drummond wants to be in at the end of games, he needs to play like his capable and use his head. He can't do the same thing with Larry, but TT is a champ and Drummond is not.

I get all the arguments, and I am intrigued by both Wiseman and Okongwu. Luckily the draft will still be before free agency. IF we get one of them, and they still want to sign TT that will tell us something. If they get a guy like Ball or Vassell that will tell us something else.

I don't think having TT around is a bad thing at all. If nothing else it is vet who echoes the work ethic of Sexton and the other hard workers. TT is vocal in a way Love is not. I appreciate him on the team, and I would love to see Drummond and TT fight for minutes. Drummond needs a wake up call IMO.

TT would be great on a playoff contender.
Depends what your view of the Cavs are for next season.
I'd rather build with young athletic players

With all the money Gilbert has, I don't see why bringing TT back would be an issue. We have his bird rights.

Drummond was brought in to see what a real center would look like next to the young guys. That means the team doesn't view Tristan as a real center or at least a starting center. Unless TT is willing to be paid like a backup I don't see him wearing a Cavs uni again.

Also, there's no real reason to limit this to top 20. If scouting is good and trusted by the front office, they should be able to take a swing if they think someone deserves to be drafted higher than consensus. So I'm thinking in addition to your list...

Nikola Jokić (41)
Pascal Siakam (27)
Montrezl Harrell (32)
Rudy Gobert (27)
Draymond Green (35)
Khris Middleton (39)
Jimmy Butler (30)
Bojan Bogdanović (31)

Adding those to your list, that's 25 all-star caliber players taken outside the top 10 since 2010, which is almost 3 players/draft. So, in a vacuum, each team was a 10% chance of hitting on one of this guys in any given draft. The last time the Cavs hit like this was either Anderson Varejao or Boozer depending on your constraints, so they are definitely due!

That's an impressive list, no doubt.

But I guess. when I brought up Giannis and Kawhi, I was revering to MVP type players who can carry a team to an NBA Championship.

Jokic and Spicey P are in that category

FWIW Every Cavs player is in town working out right now (outside of the free agents).
I wonder if that includes Drummond because I don't think he officially opted in for next season. Although he said he would.

I'm curious what everyone think.

What are the three biggest things the Cavs need to improve on?

What player(s) needs to step up this upcoming season?

Do yall think the NBA will have a bubble or several bubbles for the whole season?

Do yall think it's realistic this team can make the playoffs. Atleast, make it interesting like push for the 8th or 9th seed?

What are the three biggest things the Cavs need to improve on? Defense, shooting, passing

What player(s) needs to step up this upcoming season? Garland, Porter and Cedi

Do yall think the NBA will have a bubble or several bubbles for the whole season? no idea, maybe the first one

Do yall think it's realistic this team can make the playoffs. Atleast, make it interesting like push for the 8th or 9th seed? In the East? Yes

“What player(s) needs to step up this upcoming season?”

Sexton, Drummond, Nance and the Cavs 1st round pick.

Please bring Love off the bench. He would probably win 6th Man, which would add to his HOF credentials.

Yes, they can make the 7th or 8th seed, which would be a major accomplishment for a team this young, and a feather in the cap of Altman for rebuilding this franchise in record time

I'm curious what everyone think.

What are the three biggest things the Cavs need to improve on?

Defense, Defense, and Defense.

It's hard to not impress on everyone that this team has been, for two years in a row, historically bad at defense. Altman hasn't exactly helped with player acquisitions, but at some point this team needs to grow on the defensive end to not be historically bad.

To give you the real list?

Defense, Passing, and Turnovers.

While Passing and Turnovers obviously go together, the Cavs are woefully incompetent in creating for others from their backcourt. If they can become average, the team as a whole would take a giant step on the offensive side.

Not sure how the Cavs ranked in Turnovers, but teams can always improve on not being bad at them.

What player(s) needs to step up this upcoming season?

The list should probably begin and end with Sexton. Although obviously Garland should be considered, Sexton needs to prove that he can put a full year of great play on the court before the Cavs can fully trust him. Not to mention he needs to make a leap in either defense or passing at some point.

Do yall think the NBA will have a bubble or several bubbles for the whole season?

With the new saliva testing being available and developed by the NBA, I think it's possible they might try an MLB model. It's going to be a terrible time to do it, given the season will likely start in the Winter when cases are likely to peak again, but if there is a fast test, they may not need to create a bubble.

Do yall think it's realistic this team can make the playoffs. Atleast, make it interesting like push for the 8th or 9th seed?

Regardless of what we think, the team seems to be saying this is where we are going to go next year. Do they have the talent to do it? Sure, Love and Drummond alone is enough if you have the right pieces around them. Now these young guys need to make a massive leap, and they have to hit big time on their 1st pick this year, as well.

I think it's realistic but hopeful, ultimately. Hell, they weren't that far out after pissing away half the year last year being terrible. So it's possible, and I would expect them to make a push.
