2020 Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Some of these I'd take note on as being potential acquisitions:

Given the off-season movement, Collins, Allen, Markkanen, Collins and White would all be players I'm watching as possibly becoming available...

Thanks for that youtube channel @Randolphkeys, real quality stuff.

I was watching his video on Trey Porter, an undrafted center from 2019, who played in the turkish league last year.

That guy looks really promising... Seems like a legit switchable rim protector, who is a good finisher and rim runner.

Ok he's 24, had a tumultuous college career and is a diabetic... But don't he look like a perfect center prospect for today's game? (Minus the shooting).

What am I missing here? Was the diabetes that much of a problem for him? He was really good in the turkish league too. I'd definitely take a flyer on him because that package looks tantalizing...

Remember that this highlight film was made by his agency... it isn't meant to be an unbiased take on his abilities. The kid moves really well. He should have made a summer league team, if those exist again.

MJ seems to on a mission to find the next "Great White Hope".... Morrison, Zeller, Kaminsky and now Hayward...

Probably has some deep guilt about Kukoc and he’s trying to pay it back. May not even realize it.

well tankathon thinks we are coming dead last http://www.tankathon.com/

theyre a bulls fan i think so a bit of bias having them that far ahead of us, I actually think we are better than the Pistons, bulls, hornets Knicks and maybe OKC its a bit hard to know what they have.

I would love to see OKC future draft stock, I bet it’s crazy good...
The Thunder could end up with 2 lottery picks in the 2021 draft, as, from previous trades, they get the best 2 picks of theirs, Houston, & Miami’s picks.

John Hollinger at The Athletic has a long column on the free agency moves so far. I thought this award was interesting...

Best Contract Award: Kris Dunn, Hawks

I’ve often noted that teams pay for offense much more willingly than they pay for defense, something I was thankful for when Tony Allen became a free agent and it cost us less than it really should have to keep him.

Anyway, Dunn is another fantastic example. He’s one of the 10 best defensive players in the league, and My BORD$ formula had Dunn as a $12.4 million value. Yet Chicago didn’t even bother to give him a qualifying offer, letting him walk out the door to replace his salary with veteran reserve Garrett Temple, and the Hawks were able to scoop him up for the laughably inexpensive price of their room exception: Two years, $10 million.

If Dunn is one of the ten best defenders in the league I would have liked the Cavs to snag him. Instead they got Dotson for two years and $4 million.

By the way, Hollinger thinks the Hawks improved more than any other team in free agency and the draft.

Then there was this on a guy that was linked to the Cavs...

Worst Contract Award: Gordon Hayward, Hornets

There could only ever be one winner here after the Hornets shelled out four years and $120 million for the 30-year-old Hayward. He has more value here than he did in Boston since he’ll be Charlotte’s primary offensive creator until LaMelo Ball is ready to take the keys. But he wasn’t going to approach a $30-million-a-year proposition in either place, and the declining value of the last two years of this deal could be staggering. Hayward will be 34 when this deal expires, so this contract could easily be Batum 2.0 by its final season.

Worst contracts honorable mention...

Joe Harris, Nets; Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Lakers; Marcus Morris, Clippers — I’ve written about the Bird Rights Trap, and it explains why all three players were able to get both money and years far in excess of what most analysis would consider their fair valuation. Harris, in particular, got a four-year, $72 million deal with another $500,000 a year in incentives for winning the championship. He’s 29, has limited defensive value, and averaged 14 points a game last season. So, how do you suppose this deal will look when he’s 32?

If Harris’s deal is bad, Morris’s is worse. It’s a four-year, $64 million deal that will likely age even worse than Harris’s — Morris will be 34 by the final season of it — all for being a 6-8 guy who is sort of decent at a lot of things but not great at any one thing.

Look, I get it. The Clippers, Lakers and Nets all expect to contend for the title this year, and couldn’t lose their Bird rights players because they had almost no means of replacing them. That’s the Bird rights trap, and it almost forces contending teams like these to overpay their secondary starters.

Hollinger didn't have anything on the Cavs but since Dotson and Delly were their only FA signings I suppose that's not surprising.

I know Sam The Bullshit Whisperer isn't held in high regards 'round these parts but he stated in terms of JB Bickerstaff, he thinks he's the most promising coach since Lenny Wilkens. It is in regard to the whole package he seems to bring and how the team seems to relate towards him.

Regarding where we end up wins and losses, It is always hard to predict. I keep on thinking, if these guys TRULY understand what they can do, you could see this team make the playoff's. We need to defend and share the ball. We have talent. A decent amount of it, ranging from older to pretty damn young. It all falls on how our pretty damn young guys do in terms of figuring out the big picture. Becoming defensive minded is a huge part of that and if we can get that into a mid-range element of good, I think we can honestly compete for a playoff slot.

As always, I am excited for the season. Small expectations -I hope to see Drummond showcase a reason for us to retain him & significant growth from our four youngsters. Would love to see Nance take another step but as long as Kevin Love is around, i am unsure if that can happen.

If Nance has been working on his jump shot and low post moves he could reduce Love’s minutes drastically. I love Kevin but Nance is quicker and more athletic but until he improves that “flat” jumper and improves his footwork on the box K Love will continue to get the balk of the PF minutes.
