You’re still of course better off finding your elite talent 1-9, but there’s usually 1-2 in the 10-19 range that are impact players. But are you in position to grab them and develop them? Odds are low (too early to properly judge 2018-2020)
2009 - Jrue Holiday
2010 - Paul George
2011 - Klay, Kawhi
2013 - Giannis, CJ McCollum
2015 - Devin Booker
2016 - Sabonis
2017 - Donovan Mitchell, Bam
This also doesn’t include the few superstars/impact players
who were available to draft past 20-45 in those drafts like Jokic, Draymond, Siakam, Brogdon, Gobert, Middleton, Jimmy Butler.
Ultimately though, regardless of positive strides made by individual players, the players as a unit, and the coaching staff, for a variety of reasons this team still is most likely to finish with one of the 8 worst records in the league. From the early looks of this draft class, this is one of those years where you’d feel pretty decent even in the 6-11 range.
