PLAYOFF GAME #2

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wonder how many people saying the Stefanski punt was terrible would be praising it if Myles strips Henne on that sack.

I hate results-dependent analysis.

I think I side slightly with the punt side, but appreciate @CBBI 's points. The difference between a td winning the game and needing a td plus 2 to just tie is a big one as well.

speaking of results-dependent analysis. I’ve got an issue with the national guys slobbering all over Andy Reid for that pass play on 4th and 1 from mid field. Yeah it worked. It looks great. If the pass is incomplete they would be KILLING him for that decision at midfield if the browns go down and score. It worked he looks like a genius. If it fails he looks like a total moron. I toohate result-dependent analysis.

And again, the whole "if the Browns had gone for it and not gotten it, the Chiefs would have only needed 32 yards to ice the game with a TD" argument just doesn't hold water for me because they only needed 20 yards to ice the game period.
So even assuming that’s true and you need to stop them from getting 20 yards either way to have a shot to win the game...you might as well pick the one where you have better field position afterwards and the Chiefs come away with zero points.

non result base incoming.

While punting was the right call, the fail was still a 90% likely win.

It’s the call I’d want Kevin to make.

Blood is on everyone's hands, guys.

Chubb killed the offense in the first half with drops.

Multiple ugly missed tackles.

Wills was knocked out early and Lamm was trash.

Ward and Garrett saved their worst game for last.

Higgins with a nightmare play Browns fans will not soon forget.

Browns covered in Vegas, yet I still somehow owe this website ten bucks.

...but through it all, that's football. It's a game of milliseconds and inches, changing the outcome.

It’s Gameday! Best of luck, fellas. I won’t be in these threads during the game as I’ll be glued to the tv and on realchiefsfans.com :chuckle:

Or... and hear me out on this, you covert the 4th down and retain possession instead of giving the Chiefs the ball at all.

Obviously that’s ideal...but the odds are so stacked against you with 4th and 9. Stefanski (and the analytics people in his ear) thought so, that going for it wasn’t even a consideration. Baker even had no problem punting because he thought they would get the ball back.

It sucks, but punting wasn’t “wrong”. It wasn’t even in the top 10 reasons they lost today.

I love Stefanski, but this is a surprisingly bad answer from a guy who gives very few of them.

The fact that he says he would have gone for it if it was “more manageable” means he knows he should have gone for it period.

But don’t get it twisted, Stefanski is absolutely not, under any circumstances going to throw his defense, players or staffers, under the bus by even partially insinuating that he didn’t have faith in them to get the job done. That’s never happening no matter what. So he’s not going to admit publicly this was the wrong decision because that would also be directly crapping on his defensive players and coaches, which he simply doesn’t do.

There should be much more discussion about execution failures than a coach choosing to punt on 4th and 9 with four minutes to go, going against a bad QB and backups at RB and multiple OL spots in an emergency situation.

Of course you go for it if it’s 4th and 3 or 4th and 4.
4th and 9 is too risky.
4+ minutes. Don’t let them get a 1st and we get the ball.
I’d rather take my chance with Baker in a 2 minute drill to get a TD than only 1 shot at 9 yards.

Did anybody ask Stefanski about the snail like pace the offense played with? Calls seemed to be getting in super late. The last drive ate up almost half of the remaining 8 minutes and barely went 10 yards. That’s my biggest gripe with Stefanski. You needed to operate quicker on the final drive. You played it like you were making your last stand, then punted.

The other thing people I very much disagree with is this whole “Henne stinks! Gotta take your chances putting the ball in his hands!” thing.

The Chiefs had already converted four first downs with Henne in the game. There was an overreaction to the interception which really masked that the Chiefs were still pretty easily moving the ball with Henne in the game.
