PLAYOFF GAME #2

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wonder how many people saying the Stefanski punt was terrible would be praising it if Myles strips Henne on that sack.

I hate results-dependent analysis.

I think I side slightly with the punt side, but appreciate @CBBI 's points. The difference between a td winning the game and needing a td plus 2 to just tie is a big one as well.

Myles Garrett who was gutting through an oblique injury and still not 100% from COVID stepped up and had a huge sack on 2nd down to force a 3d and long and honestly we can't ask for much more considering the circumstances

Not to mention the defense got stop on first down and a huge sack on 2nd down from Myles Garrett to force KC into a 3rd and long. Aside from a turnover what more could we have asked for going into that 3rd down run?

WE forced KC into a do or die 4th down play and they converted. I feel like people are shitting on the defense for their cumulative performance over the whole season on two plays today. 3rd and 14 and 4th and inches and that's just not fair.

WE have to give KC credit for making plays after our defense forced them into a tough situation.
But, extremely important to note, Myles did NOT make an appearance on that drive until third down

Stefanski KNEW this when he made the decision

So we have to evaluate the decision ALSO based on the fact that Stefanski made it KNOWING that our best player would be a situational guy on that drive

And that matters

But Myles made a play when we needed it. The offense had 3 chances to make a play on the previous drive and they couldn't.

Yeah agreed that a lot of times results dictate the praise, but I’ve got time stamped evidence I wanted to go for it the entire time. So at the very least I have a free pass to question it forever
Oh for sure. I'm not trying to say everyone against the punt fits under that umbrella... but a lot of fans do.

I appreciate the people, like you and @CBBI , who raise good points.

Heat of the moment, I thought we were going for it. I think my trust in Stefanski swayed me to assuming the punt must be correct.

Hindsight, it's close. I like giving our defense a chance to create a turnover, and the chance to be playing for the win rather than a tie.

Man it’s tough to think about tomorrow today, but at the end of the day, I’m still ecstatic Stefanski is leading us going forward. I don’t like his call and I may not sleep tonight, but we have the right leadership in place for a long time. I truly believe that

Reid really put on a clinic. How many people would have dialed up a pass play on 3rd and 14 after Henne threw a grotesque INT the last drive? Even though it didn’t end up being a pass, it spread our bad defense out and gave Henne a lane to take off.

I would have been more OK punting (still would have wanted to go for it) trailing by 6, 7 or 8 where a Chiefs field goal makes it a 2 possession game.

Anything less than that, where you can still at least tie after a KC made FG, and I just think you have to go for it given the lack of time and timeouts remaining at play.

But think about what you’re saying. Why would KC kick a FG when it would still be a 1 possession game afterwards, when they could go for it themselves, potentially make it a two-possession game, AND eat more time on the clock?

At the end of the day, the defense needed to be able to stop them and they didn’t.

On that helmet to helmet. Even if that was called a penalty, whats the punishment? Seems like the answer is “half the distance to the goal”. But a TD is taken off the board as he gets in if no helmet to helmet occurs.

So the NFL is SIGNIFICANTLY rewarding an extremely unsafe play.

And again, the whole "if the Browns had gone for it and not gotten it, the Chiefs would have only needed 32 yards to ice the game with a TD" argument just doesn't hold water for me because they only needed 20 yards to ice the game period.

Easy to point fingers. We had a chance just blew it on the last drive and the D choked. But it’s our best season in 30 years. No guarantee it won’t be another 30 years to win a playoff so let’s just enjoy it.
