Like,I said a few pages back, people like you need to get over it or not be a Cavs fan period. I'm tired of yall keep talking about the Cavs should have drafted SGA or Michael Porter Jr.

SGA told the Cavs not to come to his workout. What's the point of drafting a player that didn't want to come here...You're trying to build a culture yet you have a disgruntled player doesn't want to play here. Then,he would have left the first chance he got during free agency.

Then, you have Michael Porter Jr, who had a severe injury. He was my guy but I understand, why the Cavs didn't draft him...And from what I'm hearing from a friend of mines, who is a Nuggets fan he ain't doing so good at the moment.

I wish this SGA talk would end. Yall act like Sexton is a bust...
The SGA telling cavs he didn’t want to be drafted by them thing is just a rumour by Windy, are we to take everything he says as gospel?

what I don’t get is if we drafted him, what was he going to do not play for us? Ruin his NBA career by sitting out his first four years? I always found that odd. Then when his 4 years were up we could sign him for more money then anybody else. Would he turn that down? I doubt it. So basically he would have probably played for us for 7 years if we drafted him. A lot can change in that time...

I genuinely think our organization just wanted Collin. Regardless of the alleged SGA rumors

Vardon said Gilbert REALLY wanted Collin after witnessing his personal work out for the team and talking to him.
Not that Vardon is any more roped in than some of the other beat guys, but Sexton really does fit a Dan Gilbert archetype.
Taking Sexton v SGA doesn't even hit my radar. There was a rumor that we could have been the one to make the Hawks/Doncic deal but didn't want to release protections on the pick from the Korver deal and didn't want Bazemore's salary, which if true is as good a reason as any front office blunder to hang one's head on.

Atlanta wanted two 1st round picks from us to get that Doncic pick, and were already worried that Trae wouldn't make it to them at 8.

It was a trade that wouldn't have happened without a gross overpay. Hard to build around a superstar at an early age like Luka without assets. It'd be the 1st stint of LeBron all over again.

Sit out a year and go back into the draft. Or play well for a year or two and demand a trade. And he's sure as hell no James Harden or Kyrie Irving to be worth that kind of headache the first year of a rebuild. Let the guy enjoy winning 30 games in Oklahoma City for a couple more years before he tries to get back to a big market.

But if we draft him we have his rights if I’m not correct? He can’t just decide not to play a year then reenter the draft? I could be wrong but I’ve never heard of this happening

Edit: damn you’re right I can’t believe that’s a rule, dumb as hell

Danny Ferry refused to play for the Clippers and went to Italy. Wayne Embry traded Ron Harper, two #1s and a #2 for Ferry, then signed him to a very long and expensive contract.

Bill Laimbeer was drafted by the Cavaliers in the Third round but he played in Italy a year as well. Came back and played for us until we traded him to Detroit.

yeah completely forgot about that. Can’t believe that’s still allowed... I would have thought they had changed that by now, but then how does that work with stash and draft euro players? Does it also expire after one year and they can reenter also?

That 2018 draft class was loaded. After Luka, there's a great next tier of talent that includes SGA, Sexton, MPJ, Mikal Bridges, Trae Young, Jaren Jackson, and Ayton. SGA probably goes 2 in a redraft, but I think you can make a compelling case for Sexton at 3. I know he's a polarizing player around here, and it's easier to nitpick a player's faults in a rebuilding situation where winning has yet to be prioritized, but he's one helluva talent. He legitimately could become an efficient 27ppg scorer, and that type of player doesn't just grow on trees.

imo the cornerstone is the hard part. If you have a front office who can identify talent, surrounding a Luka Doncic with good NBA players shouldn't be a problem for the most part.
Also, they would have had:
G Luka
G Hill
SF Korvor
PF Love
C TT

w/Hood, Clarkson, Nance and Cedi and maybe an engaged JR off the bench.
I mean, you could probably turn some of those guys into assets like Altman did, some of the vets would fit with Luka..
I think the deal w/us was ultimately leverage w/the Mavs.

I was super high on Mikal that year. I still like him, but I think I prefer Sexton talent v talent wise.

I love Mikal's game. I considered him a high-quality 3&D role player during the draft, but he looks like much more than that. His length is insane, and it allows him to be one of the most versatile defensive players in the league. He's about as good of a glue guy as you can find for a championship caliber team. I just don't think he's the type of player to start your rebuild with.
