2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Crazy thing is that, overall, Michigan actually played a great game defensively. 51 points is UCLA's 2nd-lowest on the season, and that was with a red-hot Juzang. If you'd known beforehand that UCLA would score 51, you'd think it'd be a 30-point blowout. Michigan goes for 76 against all the length and athleticism of FSU, only to be completely shut down by UCLA? I guess that's why they call it March Madness.
Didn't help that Juwan kept doubling and tripling down on Hutchinson post ups when they couldn't score. Just a really bad coaching move there.

Yeah, I think pick&rolls with guards/wings getting downhill would've been a better idea. UCLA's bigs are strong enough to hold their ground in the post, but overall they foul a lot more often than they block shots. Can't control whether or not your 3's are falling, but it's inexcusable to finish that game with just 6 points at the foul line.

Everyone in the gym knew that if Hutchison was getting the ball in the post, the possession would end with a left jump hook. Didn't stop them from drawing it up though.

That's why Hutchinson...er...Dickinson, has such a weak statistical projection at the NBA level. Too much of a black hole in the post.

Yeah Jalen Suggs is so legit.. would go with him and ship out garland or Sexton

This is what I've been arguing all along. If we end up with the 3rd or 4th pick and Suggs is there, YOU FREAKING TAKE HIM! I don't care about "fit." We need a homerun swing and this dude has REAL homerun potential.

You ship out Garland or Sexton and make it happen. Period.

Somehow, someway our front office will screw that up though and say "well we have guards and needed a better "fit.""

Here's my current projections for the upcoming draft..

Tier A (superstar potential):

Jalen Suggs
Jalen Green
Cade Cunningham
Evan Mobley

Tier B (star or near star potential)

Jonathan Kuminga
Scottie Barnes
Moses Moody
Ziaire Williams

Everyone else projects to be average to possibly above average role players after that.

With that said, the Cavs will screw it up and say "Kispert is our guy! He's a leader and a great shooter for our core."....... and I will drive myself to the bridge to stand on it and contemplate the rest of my life

Is there a different Ziaire Williams besides the one who shit the bed at Stanford this year?

I think Suggs would be a really interesting back court buddy to Sexton.

Two really dynamic and atheltic players and Suggs is a really good distributor to boot. Elite defensively for a guard and plays hard all the time. I suppose he fits better with Sexton than he does with Garland.

Hence why I said POTENTIAL... I watched a handful of his games this year. The POTENTIAL is clearly there. He had moments that looked... concerning..... but then you see moments like in January he had a triple double...

He needs to add weight and continue refining his game but if we're picking 8-9 range I definitely do not hate the pick. Is there anyone in that 8 or above range you think has more star potential long term?

Regardless, hopefully we picking in the top 5 and don't even have to worry about this.

This is definitely a draft I'd love to trade back into the late 1st round and grab another piece..... Some guys in that 20-40 range (or at least being projected in that range) that I'd like are:

Jalen Johnson
Josh Giddey
BJ Boston (ok maybe.... not sure here but maybe)
Charles Bassey (was projected lottery last year before an injury)
Drew Timme (surprised to see him mocked so low on a couple sites)

Based on current mocks?

I'd prefer Sengun, Wagner out of the guys I see mocked lower than 8. Not sure I'd even take Ziaire in the lottery. Watched him in high school and had big-time concerns that were not eased at all during his freshman season. I don't believe he has star potential.

1a. Mobley
1b. Green
3. Suggs
4. Cunningham
5. Kuminga
6. Barnes
7. Johnson
8. Sengun (could move up as I have a chance to see more)
9. Wagner
10. Moody

Guys later in the draft (no specific order):
Davion Mitchell
Neemias Queta
Joel Ayayi
Daishen Nix
Jay Huff
Quentin Grimes
Isaiah Livers

No love for Jared Butler?

Jalen Johnson is going to be a lottery pick.

I'd also be surprised if Drew Timme came out. He's only a sophomore.
