Okoro was weak vs. the Spurs. A whole lot of nothing. Anything he got was because somebody set it for him and the Spurs were atrocious.

Players making shots that are set up for them is the backbone of the majority of the best offenses in the league. Not sure what point you thought you were making.

If that was your takeaway from watching Okoro and the team last night, I feel bad for you. Not only was it a win, all our RCF punching bags either balled out or flashed their potential last night. If you can’t enjoy that stuff in a rebuild, you’re gonna have a bad time.

Sometimes reading these threads I feel like I’m one of the only people watching the Cavs for the purpose of fun. I’ll never fully understand what some of you guys get out of all these doom-posts.... especially considering how laughable they look in hindsight. Read old Sexton and Garland threads if you don’t get what I mean.

you wonder if Okoro’s shooting really is about confidence when you watch him hit that 3 with about 5 mins left in the game. the Cavs were essentially playing recess ball and Okoro looks calm and loose shooting. Instead of the deliberate mechanical form he usually has.
It reminds me of Sexton his first season in the league. He never seemed confident outside of the mid range for a while, then he figured out the game.

It's encouraging that Okoro doesn't have a crap shooting form (see: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist)

Shot looks much better. Hopefully the handle starts to come along as well.

I know we all are impressed with his recent offensive success but he has been a DAWG defensively the past few games, derozan was visibly frustrated by him yesterday and he has been all over the place against teams theses 2/3s
Yeah Derozan would pass the ball once he realized he was being covered by Okoro. We saw that agains Philly too.

He has slowed down Harden, Simmons, Trae, Butler, Lavine and many more. He's learning fast and yes he has had a good run lately after getting killed repeatedly earlier in the year. He is not trying to poke the ball from behind anymore. He has a better idea of what will work now.

Looks more under control. This is the game slowing down.

We all knew Okoro was super raw coming into the league and had no offseason, summer league, etc on top of it. They fact they have gotten 17 and 11 points from this kid the past two games is just gravy. I didn't expect him to have double digit scoring games his first season. Now if he can average 14 points, make open 3's, keep providing defense, and improve his handle just a little bit he will be a very valuable player in this league. I think he can get there in the next two years. Not comparing him to Jaylen Brown but Brown was averaged 6 PPG/2.8 rebounds at the same age during his rookie season in Boston.

He just looks more under control. He's honestly looked terrified with the ball at times. Seems like with a little extra space, he looks a lot more comfortable.

I think these little 2 or 3 day breaks should be good for Okoro, just a moment to breath and process all that is going on. At some point, being too busy, game after game, travelling etc... just doesn't give time to learn anything.

Perhaps it's wishful thinking, but he's starting to show things here and there that he has high potential given some development.

This is a good point on JB/Okoro, and he's actually pretty comparable to JB. There was a reason the C's were much more willing to include the Nets pick and not Brown in the Irving deal, and you see it every night in Boston.
Okoro has been basically making the right play every night way more than the wrong play or the questionable play since game 1. Everything he does is in the flow of the game to the point that if/when he does force a drive or a look it's shocking.
People should note that Jimmy Butler wasn't the top level 2-way player he is today until his 4th year in the NBA. He was a defense-only guy who saw limited minutes at first. Cavs (being the Cavs) have Okoro playing like 41.58 minutes a game out the gate, and he's already the best wing defender we have.
So you have a 19/20 year old guy with a relentless motor, a phenomenal floor game, top level athletic ability, a very good hoops IQ, an ability to finish with either hand at the rim and already knows how to use his body to get separation, and by all accounts a great work ethic who's just now starting to get a feel for his jumper and how to attack NBA defenses.
If you can't get behind that kind of NBA prospect on your rebuilding team, I have to question what you think this process looks like.

I agree, and whether it's wishful thinking or not, it's still good to see him showing an uptick in potential.we need one of him or windler to at least be a rotation piece.

This is a first for our team. We’ve never had so many young kids. We had Hot Rod, Brad, Ron, Mark and Kevin in the span of three years but they all had significant college experience. Daugherty for example had four years with Dean Smith; our three young bucks had fewer years of college combined.

Check out Okoro’s offensive ratings the past few weeks. He’s had several good games and a couple where he’s led the team. Obviously he plays better when there are old hands on the floor who can space and pass. Delly can’t score anymore but his passing is outstanding. Kevin’s passing on offense is very good and his outlet passes are still the best in the game.

I continue to believe Pops would kill someone to get Okoro. He’s got everything needed to develop into a very good all around basketball player. Jimmy Butler sees it, and a guy like Jimmy doesn’t just pass around compliments (he’s more likely to dump on someone who underachieves).
