I have no idea what the Cavs should pay this guy. $20m/year could turn out to be a steal or an albatross based on what I’ve seen thus far.

With how the NBA is trending, I'm not sure many teams will trade for a center of Allen's skill set making 20 million. So if he works on our team that's great but if he doesn't I think we will have a hard time moving him.

I thought it was a no brainer to just pay him before we saw how well Sexton and Garland played with two bigs that can shoot. Now though, I think they should explore if they can better use the money they would give him on a stretch 5 and a cheaper center.

If we’re not paying for the age 23-27 years of guys with talent to see how their development finishes and how high their ceiling is, than what are we doing?

The salary cap is massive. Choose to not pay Sexton and Allen, and who exactly are we paying? We’re not going to have a 50M payroll. We’re not going to be signing All NBA players from other teams.

Now I would draw the line at a MAX deal because of his position and skill set and I’d feel better if he wasn’t having some of the struggles that we’ve seen at times, but I still have zero issue with him getting a 4-5 year deal anywhere between 15-22M per year(ideally under 20 of course)

Who are these people you'd rather spend money on?

Jarrett was rated the #1 center available this summer and yall want to walk away? He's young and developing. He's darn good today. Just give him the money.

I think it’s partially a reaction to the initial over reaction when we traded for him.

He’s young and with talent but after his initial 4-5 games here some people were throwing around things like top 5 big man in the NBA or top5 traditional center in the NBA. So that set an unrealistic expectation level and now we’re seeing some ups and downs and differences in how he performs against different matchups and the reactions sway too far in the opposite direction.

Ultimately, unless someone makes a ridiculous S&T offer, there’s just no reason to move on from him as he transitions fro ma young player to an early prime player. If it ends up a mistake, it’s a mistake of the right kind, paying for years 23-27 instead of 28-32 or worse.

I would happily give Allen 18-20mil a year and Sexton same. I might be tempted to give Allen a little more if push came to shove

Sexton and Garland won’t work long term. Can’t play both and can’t pay both.

We have to pay Allen. Remember dude is only 23. Of course he will some times have problems with grown ass offensive big men who has been in the league way longer.

I'm not saying don't resign Allen but explorer scenarios that might be alternatives in case he doesn't want to be here or we can pull off a sign and trade with him.

I think the NBA is trending to where you need 3pt shooting from all 5 positions. It's not that Allen will becomes unplayable but his role could get deminished over time to where paying him 20 million a year won't look good.

We already got a taste of how Sexton, Garland, and Okoro played when paired with two shooting bigs in Love and Wade. A tradition center is one of the most inflexible positions with lineups for the NBA, you can't play two of them and you only really need to play one to match up.

I wish we had a stretch 5 so they could evaluate which this team needs more, a tradition shot blocking center or a stretch 5 to open up slashing lanes.

There are only a handful of real stretch 5’s in the NBA that are starting quality players.

Allen has things he needs to work on, but even as he stands he has 1st Team All NBA Defense and DPOY potential. Those types of guys are really hard to find, especially one that is soon to be 23. He’s not worth a max, but he’s worth $20 mill especially considering our situation when it comes to free agents.

If possible for Allen I would like to see a base salary of say 14 to 15 million and incentive bonuses based on him reaching certain goals say 6 to 8 million.
Also think this could apply to Sexton with slightly less numbers or may be the same as Allen.

Utah is doing pretty good with Rudy Gobert. Phoenix is doing fine with Ayton. Atlanta has improved with Capella back. Portland competes with Nurkic.

The only "stretch 5s" are Jojo, Jokic and Vucevic. 2 MVP candidates and an All-Star that hasn't made it out of the 1st round as an important part of a team.

He's been getting his ass kicked lately by both big and small guys. What is going on? Why can't he hold onto the ball, why is his finishing plummeting?

He has such poor body language
