2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lots of talk about the Cavs needing a scoring wing, and I agree. Still, I don't think it is beyond the realm of possibility that one or two of the guys already on the roster can become that guy with another year of experience under their belt. Cedi... I hated him this year, but he has been much better before last year... might have been a "blip" year before continued growth. Stevens... where did this guy come from... mature for a rookie... strong, tough guy... good defense... good mid range shooter... needs to shoot a couple thousand three pointers every day this off season. Windler... apparently was shooting lights out three pointers in training camp but it disappeared during the season... might get it back with health... better on defense, passing and rebounding than I expected. Prince... certainly has the aggressive scoring attitude... I hated him some games and loved him others... might find consistency. Who knows. It could happen.
Over the past 2 seasons SF was the biggest weakness on this team. Last year it was a total black hole. Cedi was down right awful. I had high hopes for him being one of our core players but last year he played totally out of control. Tried to play too fast and was a spaz. Maybe trying to do too much.

In today's NBA SF is the most important position. Hard to win today without a large, athletic wing who can consistently hit 3's, pass, drive and grab rebounds. It's the position that has benefited the most from small ball line-ups and the move away from big centers.

I would probably move/trade Cedi if there is any market for him. Stevens showed some flashes, maybe he could develop into a solid back-up if he continues to develop. I don't view Windler as a likely NBA rotation player. We haven't seen much from him and it's a small sample size but so far I'm not impressed.

How did you draw these. They look amazing.

?

I didnt draw them, I pulled them from statmuse.com. It just took me a while to screenshot, crop, and upload each one so I could put them in one post. The charts are clickable for shooting percentage for each box on the site but I didn't think it would have the same impact if I just linked each players page with the chart.

I wanted to visually show them all together so everyone could compare them quickly and easily to give a picture of the shooting on the team.

Please discuss cause this took me way longer than I thought to put together.

Here is Lauri Markkanen shot chart and a big reason why I would want to try to go after him in free agency. I think he would really help stretch the floor and fill in the spots where we need 3 pt shooting the most. As a backup center I think he could be had for the MLE, not sure we could afford a wing that shot like this.

I still think Windler is going to end up a rotation player. Natural shooter with high BBIQ. Sample size is far too small to dismiss his shooting.

Your eyes are lying to you.

I love the way his shot looks.

Hopefully, he can get healthy and build some confidence.
My eyes aren’t lying to me…I see a “consistent inconsistent” shooting form from him. I see a shooter that has no confidence in his shot UNLESS he’s wide open. Like I said on the Cavs he may be a rotational player…..on a good team he’s a 12th-13th best player.

His form looks perfectly fine, but you’re dead on with the lack of confidence. Guy needs to find a way to stay healthy and on the court. Such a shame that a guy with no prior injury issues suddenly can’t catch a break.

That’s why I said “consistently inconsistent”. At times he has a nice form. Then the next couple of games he gets this hitch in his form or he’ll start his slow release from the hip. Which gives defenders the opportunity to close out on him.

We won't know what Windler really is until the game slows down for him. The problem was that when he was healthy our team was fairly healthy. He hasn't gotten a ton of minutes yet and it will just get harder to justify giving him minutes if he can't stay healthy. We will have more young players this year and his developmental window for the Cavs might be closing.

He really needs that window of being healthy at he right time so he can get meaningful and solid minutes night in night out for the the game to slow down for him.

Windler sample shooting
You could not be further from correct on Windler. The problem is his injury bug will probably force him to be a situational player, if it does not improve. Which could match an end of the rotation type. But it won't be for the incorrect reasons you are claiming.
Not only is he a elite IQ player, hih means playmaking and defending, he is a legit outside shooter.

The Young Guys still in Cleveland. I saw via Twitter DG, Sexton, Okoro, Windler and Stevens all at Cleveland Clinic Courts. That’s good.
Younger guys across our organizations seem to be around one another outside of their games. It's been pretty cool to see.

Baseball being the exception (that I know of).

Garland needs the a floater to reach his potential. It’s basically essential that a PG has a move to make the big man show in the paint, which then facilitates the lob. The threat of lob vs floater will consistently break a defense and is almost impossible to guard in the modern NBA. Other PG’s have options (see Ja’s spin and push after a 30 inch no-step vertical) but at DG’s size he has to lock into the floater and stick with it. I’m fine with him if he struggles through it but I thought it actually became pretty reliable in the 2nd half of the year.

Don't want Windler playing the 4 ever again. Backup 3 is what his body can take
