2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Windler sample shooting
You could not be further from correct on Windler. The problem is his injury bug will probably force him to be a situational player, if it does not improve. Which could match an end of the rotation type. But it won't be for the incorrect reasons you are claiming.
Not only is he a elite IQ player, hih means playmaking and defending, he is a legit outside shooter.
If that’s what you want to believe I’m not going to stop you. He doesn’t pass the eye test for me. Elite IQ player…..no! Nice IQ maybe. Playmaking? Hell no! Legit outside shooter…..leaves a lot to be desired. Too inconsistent. Can he get better consistently…maybe! If I’m wrong and he shows something different this upcoming season I’ll be the first to come on here and eat crow.

Curse of Aaron Gordon continues. But they never had a chance without Murray.
Never should have made that trade for AG though imo. I think giving up recently stolen draftee RJ Hampton, and
of course losing Harris, was the guy they needed more than anyone, when they lost Murray killed them.

I am pretty sure you are talking out your hind parts most of the time LOL

there was a point when he was playing the 2, and i think he did alright.
I am actually curious if they would try putting him on ball to back up Garland. Probably not given one of his strengths is off ball movement with floor stretching. But his playmaking is underrated imo.

Windler won't get better until he can physically take the nba pounding.. But if he can get stronger before he is out of the league, I think he can be a good rotational player.. Prince by the way has the same struggles. Lamar on the other hand may lack skills and range, but he clearly has the physique to take the contact..

I think this becomes a vector in draft selection.. Sexton and Ikoro were physically ready for starter minutes out of the gate, as was Porter, and Stevens.. They have all met or exceeded expectations so far.. I think next year we may be including Kabongele in that group..

So of the players mentioned as possible picks for us, who has the NBA ready body?

I still think Windler is going to end up a rotation player. Natural shooter with high BBIQ. Sample size is far too small to dismiss his shooting.
I still believe too. Sometimes shooters take some time to excel in the NBA. Harris and Green former Cavs were given up too early. And I believe Windler is one of them and there were signs in his first summer league action we were very excited for him. When he let it fly, he let it fly. Koby wants to see him again next season so I’m sure the team wants to keep building him and I want him to be part of that rotation.

I view Windler in the same vein as Kyle Huerter

On the other side, it is great seeing Lamar Stevens spending time with Sexton, Garland, Okoro, and Windler. If Stevens can develop a consistent 3pt shot, he has a bright future to be in part of key rotation player.

He's supposed to be a great teammate. I guess the guys like him. It is a shame he got that concussion, because he would have gotten minutes at the end of the year. He adjusted to the speed of the game faster than Windler or Okoro. Might be something there. I guess his career depends on that 3 pt shot.

A couple of thoughts that go through my head when I am analyzing these players:
1. Regardless of who is starting, are they a quality piece on a winning team? A 1-8 in a rotation? That's a yes for sexton, garland, and Okoro going forward, I do believe. That's really good and they aren't done getting better.
2. Kind of an off-shoot of #1: what do these guys look like (and other guys) in an organization like the Spurs? Isaac clearly all-world, Sexton putting up 50 points on 70% TS%, and Garland being a better Tony Parker. I fear that we ditch players like Cedi and then they go to the Spurs and then they are just amazing all pros or roll players.

We have seen our fair share of players going elsewhere and playing way better. So before we cast these guys off or trade them for fear of fit, I think the above questions might help us decide who is worth keeping.
