I'll follow your second point by asking why - in a society where the generation who plays pro sports doesn't care about sexual orientation - is Nassib the only male pro athlete in a major sport to come out? Probably not the teammates who already knew... it is likely the potential harassment from fans who have not accepted the fact society has changed and left them behind.

Jason Collins in the NBA.

I'm not sure if there are even many closeted NBA players, but without getting into a debate about the other issues related to it, it's widely believed that Magic Johnson is/was bisexual.

I meant active pro athlete, rushed the post because I had to leave the house.

There are closeted players currently in the NBA and MLB, reporters even know who they are... it's a matter of respect that others aren't forcing them "out" publicly. Additionally, I don't care if players do want to remain closeted. Go ahead, do what you want. The public scrutiny seems like a huge headache.
 
Nassib has earned praise from many people over the years for being a great guy.

What always stuck out to me from his rookie year was him teaching the D-Line room how to invest their money:

If statistics play out and extend to professional athletes, there are around 50-70 gay NFL players.

And there is one big name that would really drive the conversation.

But he has thus far declined to come out. And has doubled-down on the smoke-screen.

If the long-standing rumors are to be believed.

Releasing Nassib and the trade he did with Ogbah were some of Dorsey's worse moves.

I heard from a good source Eric Dickerson is gay, I wouldnt doubt there are a bunch of closeted athletes.

Amanda Nunes is arguably the most dominant female mma fighter of all time in two different weight classes at the same. It has to be her.

Aaron Rogers?
 
^ Good guess, as he does not talk to his family either (might be a major reason why). Doubling down with pictures from Hawaii with a lady friend and another couple.

Wish it was a fully accepted part of culture, just as I with my wife. Religion and bigots get in the way, among other things. Hopefully my kids have an opportunity to see a more cohesive US / World....but that is likely wishful thinking...as my generation (I'm mid-40s) still holds these biases that will be ingrained in the children of today.
