Trade ideas: Offseason edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Based on the information last night provided by Ben that the Mavericks have been and continue to be interested in Collin Sexton, it’s difficult to see a trade fit initially. They’ve sent away so many future firsts and don’t have any promising young players on rookie deals outside of their cornerstone. Despite this, Sexton and Luka clearly would be a good offensive pairing that allows Sexton to be aggressive and work as a secondary facilitator without having to guard 2’s and 3’s consistently.

I still consider Porzingis a positive asset at 25 years of age, but the Dallas defense with him on the floor is just deplorable as they don’t really have the athletes to switch and account for him. I believe they are ready to move on—he needs a fresh start. However, I don’t necessarily find him the best fit in Cleveland either.

Enter a third team, Golden State, with veterans trying to make runs deep in the playoffs for a few final times if they can keep their roster healthy. Having the 7th and 14th pick, they have the luxury to deal one of them.

Dallas receives:

PF - Kevin Love
SG - Collin Sexton

Golden State receives:

C/PF - Kristaps Porzingis
F - Dorian Finney-Smith

Cleveland Receives:

SF - Andrew Wiggins
C - Kevin Looney
2021 1st round pick - #7 overall - from GS via MIN

Why for us? Well, despite taking back Wiggins’ bad contract, he at least can give minutes at the wing—which we sorely lack. His deal runs for the next two years, like Love’s deal, but at this point, it’s time to get off Kevin Love with his tantrums starting to come to a head.

We take a backup center in Looney who is signed to a reasonable deal, and get the #7 pick rather than having to pay Sexton long term.

There are plenty of players we like at #7.

Golden State gets a guy in Porzingis who pairs well with Draymond Green, and they keep Wiseman in that front court rotation. Finley-Smith gives much needed versatility at the forward spot, and allay Thompson is coming back at the 2.

Steph, Klay, Finney-Smith, Draymond, Porzingis gives them a chance to compete in the West the next few years, while Wiseman continues to develop.

For Dallas, they get a 22 year old scoring guard who averages 25 ppg that can be counted on to share that onus with Luka. Sexton guards opposing PG’s, which he’s shown an improved ability to do, and Luka handles primary facilitation duties. If Love is healthy and motivated following his Team USA rejuvenation, they can also get some much needed floor spacing out of him in Dallas.
Love that trade for us, especially if Barnes is there @ 7.

No chance Dallas values KP that poorly to take back an old injury prone player and a combo guard that will get a max offer sheet in fa

You realIze that Porzingis is quickly becoming a negative asset around the league, right?

Going to be 26 next season, has been injured the better part of 3 years, and is making $35 million/year for the next 4.

Cavz sign Hartenstein to a multi year deal, send Jarrett Allen to Orlando for there two picks from which we select Kuminga at 5 and either Sengun or Kai Kones at 7. Take Green at #3 assuming Houston takes Mobley.

Would love to see the numbers Hartenstein could post by getting 30 minutes per game. I would wager based on sample size here in Cleveland they would be close to Allen’s .

Hartenstein would be far cheaper than the huge contract Allen would get.

Green and Kuminga vastly improve the wings and the deph of the team

I like your idea though I am not certain we could get both top 10 picks. Maybe a 2nd and a first in 2022.

Hartenstein would foul out of every game...he averaged a career high 2.8 fouls in just under 18 minutes per game.

I am not sure if it is a double-post.

I think you just cut Dallas out of this as I can’t envision any real scenario where GSW would prefer Porzingis and Finney-Smith over Sexton and Love. With the way they play basketball, Sexton is a Sixth Man of the Year candidate and Love provides needed rebounding and shooting off the bench. Love also has significant playoff and championship experience that Porzingis doesn’t have.

This was before I was aware Golden State had interest in Sexton. I was going off Ben's info that Dallas was interested.

What team is offering Sexton a max offer sheet as an RFA?

10. Sexton, Love for Kristaps Porzingis

8. Sexton for Kira Lewis Jr., Pick No. 10

6. Sexton, Love, 2022 second-round pick, 2023 first-round pick (top-8 protected) for Brandon Ingram, Jaxson Hayes, 2021 second-round pick

6 is the best trade if we’re drafting Green. No idea why NOP would want this. This trade is Sexton, Love, and what should be a non-lotto pick two years from now for Ingram. I’m not a giant fan of Ingram, but I’d take that trade in a second and figure it out later.

5 is a great trade if we’re taking Mobley at 3. The compensation seems more realistic on this and Nance helps them fill another need. I like Neismith if we added another late lotto pick last year, so adding him to our severe lack of depth at SF would be great. In terms of the pick, if things go well and out young guys develop, I’m not sure why that team couldn’t sneak into the Eastern Conference playoffs this year. Would need Garland to make a leap, but Brown would make things much easier on him.

That being said, if I’m Boston I’d struggle to break up Brown and Tatum at this point unless I’m getting a legit All-Star or excellent pick in return.

No. Not enough coming back. 10. Sexton, Love for Kristaps Porzingis

Meh. Yes? 8. Sexton for Kira Lewis Jr., Pick No. 10

Yes. 6. Sexton, Love, 2022 second-round pick, 2023 first-round pick (top-8 protected) for Brandon Ingram, Jaxson Hayes, 2021 second-round pick

Yes. I'd hate to give up LNJ, but yes for Jaylen Brown. 5. Sexton, Larry Nance Jr., 2022 first-round pick (top-four protected) for Jaylen Brown, Aaron Nesmith

Yes, especially if its #7. 3. Sexton, Love for Andrew Wiggins, 2021 first-round pick

Meh. Depends on the pick coming back. 2. Sexton for Killian Hayes, one of Sekou Doumbouya or Isaiah Stewart, future first-round pick

Id rather have their picks this year than Obi. 1. Sexton, Cedi Osman for Obi Toppin, RJ Barrett
