Trade ideas: Offseason edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Based on the information last night provided by Ben that the Mavericks have been and continue to be interested in Collin Sexton, it’s difficult to see a trade fit initially. They’ve sent away so many future firsts and don’t have any promising young players on rookie deals outside of their cornerstone. Despite this, Sexton and Luka clearly would be a good offensive pairing that allows Sexton to be aggressive and work as a secondary facilitator without having to guard 2’s and 3’s consistently.

I still consider Porzingis a positive asset at 25 years of age, but the Dallas defense with him on the floor is just deplorable as they don’t really have the athletes to switch and account for him. I believe they are ready to move on—he needs a fresh start. However, I don’t necessarily find him the best fit in Cleveland either.

Enter a third team, Golden State, with veterans trying to make runs deep in the playoffs for a few final times if they can keep their roster healthy. Having the 7th and 14th pick, they have the luxury to deal one of them.

Dallas receives:

PF - Kevin Love
SG - Collin Sexton

Golden State receives:

C/PF - Kristaps Porzingis
F - Dorian Finney-Smith

Cleveland Receives:

SF - Andrew Wiggins
C - Kevin Looney
2021 1st round pick - #7 overall - from GS via MIN

Why for us? Well, despite taking back Wiggins’ bad contract, he at least can give minutes at the wing—which we sorely lack. His deal runs for the next two years, like Love’s deal, but at this point, it’s time to get off Kevin Love with his tantrums starting to come to a head.

We take a backup center in Looney who is signed to a reasonable deal, and get the #7 pick rather than having to pay Sexton long term.

There are plenty of players we like at #7.

Golden State gets a guy in Porzingis who pairs well with Draymond Green, and they keep Wiseman in that front court rotation. Finley-Smith gives much needed versatility at the forward spot, and allay Thompson is coming back at the 2.

Steph, Klay, Finney-Smith, Draymond, Porzingis gives them a chance to compete in the West the next few years, while Wiseman continues to develop.

For Dallas, they get a 22 year old scoring guard who averages 25 ppg that can be counted on to share that onus with Luka. Sexton guards opposing PG’s, which he’s shown an improved ability to do, and Luka handles primary facilitation duties. If Love is healthy and motivated following his Team USA rejuvenation, they can also get some much needed floor spacing out of him in Dallas.
If Barnes (1A) or Sengun is around at 7, sign me up

I like to think that CavsNation is just a bunch of failed ex journalism students that write shitty articles to claim they're employed.

They fit a niche in the market with all the other aggregators. Basically with all these pay wall sites like the Athletic, there is a gap in the market that they can fill by just quoting and adding some thoughts. They will get clicks and probably make a living from it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are making multiple sites for different fan bases and making these shitty articles. There is probably good money in it once they get to a certain number of teams.

So many more people would just read the Athletic if it was free and probably make it a sustainable company. Yet they stand firmly behind their paywall and all these site to take revenue from ads that could be theirs.

Did anyone else see this trade? We would trade Nance, Sexton and Love while getting Ingram and Bledsoe back... I am not sure that would really help us other than get out of Love's contract.... I like Nance and Sexton personally...

With MPJ, having a rough playoffs on offense and defense, Denver might be a team looking for some balance and security

so I propose Sexton and Nance for MPJ and Nnaji + 2nd rounder
Cleveland gets a 3 point threat for Garland and Denver gets a PG missing last playoffs and lows Murray to be eased into the line-up. Plus Nance, who is a glue guy and a defensive specialist.

KPJ is in Houston and Hampton is in Orlando.

It also makes no sense for New Orleans. Love and Nance play the same position as Zion. Ingram is more playable at SF than Nance. Sexton would be an upgrade over Bledsoe but I don't see Sexton and Zion as being a great pairing.

Griff probably gets fired before he could pull the trigger on this trade. He should be trying to find more positionless players to surround Zion.

There's a very strong case to be made that Zion is better as a wing player than a power forward or center. A front court of Zion, Nance and Love (if the last 2 are healthy ever) could provide a LOT of space on the court and speed in transition... on paper, Lonzo, Sexton, Zion, Nance and Love could do some damage. That said, I HIGHLY doubt this trade is even mildly realistic.

Griffin has done an awful job.

I am not sure if it is a double-post.

FortyEightMinutes had invited Twitter followers to submit their best Collin Sexton trades. Here are some of the ideas ranked by the website:

https://fortyeightminutes.com/ranking-best-collin-sexton-trades/

10. Sexton, Love for Kristaps Porzingis

8. Sexton for Kira Lewis Jr., Pick No. 10

6. Sexton, Love, 2022 second-round pick, 2023 first-round pick (top-8 protected) for Brandon Ingram, Jaxson Hayes, 2021 second-round pick

5. Sexton, Larry Nance Jr., 2022 first-round pick (top-four protected) for Jaylen Brown, Aaron Nesmith

3. Sexton, Love for Andrew Wiggins, 2021 first-round pick

2. Sexton for Killian Hayes, one of Sekou Doumbouya or Isaiah Stewart, future first-round pick

1. Sexton, Cedi Osman for Obi Toppin, RJ Barrett
You take No. 6 and No. 5 everyday of the week without looking back.

Beg to disagree. Zion's game compliments Love ( when.healthy) very well, and Nance is the Swiss army knife of basketball. Those three with a couple of clever guards would be brutal defensively and choose your poison to guard.. That said, I don't think Collin is the clever guard they need..

I just noticed these trades proposed by Bleacher Report

  1. New Orleans Pelicans Receive: G Collin Sexton, F Taurean Prince
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: G Eric Bledsoe, 2021 first-round pick (No. 10 overall), 2022 first-round pick (via Los Angeles Lakers)

  2. Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: F Harrison Barnes, PF Marvin Bagley III
Sacramento Kings Receive: PF Kevin Love, SF Cedi Osman, 2022 first-round pick (top-five protected in 2022, 2023 and 2024)

#1 is actually a great trade for the Cavs IMO. Bledsoe fills a need as a backup PG, and while I don’t love his contract, between Bledsoe, Love, and Nance that’d be $60 mill in expiring contracts next season. All our core pieces aside from Allen would be on rookie contracts (barring trades).

Not a fan of the second trade and I have no idea why the Kings would want Sexton when they already have Fox, Hield, and Halliburton. Makes no sense at all unless they’re planning to play predominately three guard lineups.
