2021 Season | Series #46 | Indians @ Yankees | Sep. 17-19

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Over a period of time...not just looking at immediate results...Wittgren and Parker are basically equal in effectiveness.

Since 2018...

Wittgren ...171.1 IP...3.57 ERA...4.24 FIP...0.6 fWAR.

Parker....181.1 IP...3.52 ERA...4.50 FIP...0.5 fWAR.

Wittgren is 30. Parker is 36.

FWIW Hoynes had this today:

The longer this season goes, the more I believe the current 40-man roster will undergo big changes in the off season and the changes won’t be that difficult to make.
Hoynes has seen enough of these garbage players too. At least 12 40 man roster people need to go. At least 12 probably more. No need to expose high end prospects to Rule 5.

What we have been watching is a competition between a bunch of guys to be the 25th or 26th man on the active roster...with the exception of Gimenez.

And thats what all the debate has been about...which player should we have sitting on the bench most of the time.

But on the other hand, we can't put a contender on the field if over a third of the 40 man is composed of kids who have never played in MLB.

We have given up four or fewer runs in a game 81 times this year.

Even with this offense, we have won 58 of them. Thats a 72% winning rate.
I can cherry-pick stats too. Tribe has been shut out 12 times in 2021and four times in last 10 games. They are 12-56 when they score three or fewer runs this season. Sounds like a hitting problem to me.

wonder how that compares to other teams
Here's how it compares to previous Tribe teams.

Last year in 72% of our games, we gave up 4 runs or less.

In 2019 it was 63%.
In 2018 it was 60%
In 2017 it was 70%
In 2016 it was 60%.

I'm not cherry picking stats.

Pitching and defense have always been the main component for winning games over a long period of time.

Elite pitching is the great equalizer and always has been.

Oddly, the Indians score more runs per game than do the Yankees!

Can't believe Plesac threw Judge a fastball dead center of the zone on a 1-2 count. He also spun a slider belt high middle of the plate to Gallo. Other than those two pitches he threw six shutout innings before running out of gas in the 7th.
Sorry other than his mistakes he was mistake-free?

Lets look at the White Sox and their great offense.

They have given up 4 runs or less 87 times. They are 66-21 (81%)

They have given up more than 4 runs in 60 games. They are 18-42 (30%)

Which has been more important to their success...scoring or run suppression?

Obviously, the FO needs to improve our offense. But it isn't the biggest problem we had this year.

The biggest problem was injuries to our pitching staff, mostly the rotation. And that problem is solved by health.

Next year WE will have the elite pitching.

A double by Mercado goes for naught.

Civale gives up a double and HBP...then calmly gets a 6-4-3 and fly out.

This ones an Upper decker for Yuuuu.

Gary Sanchez looking at an Aaron Civale curve ball.. If he wants to watch the baseball game.. he should buy a ticket..
