Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #12 | Wizards @ Cavs | Nov. 10, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ricky’s gotta knock down that FT too, but to be fair he went 7-8 from the line tonight, and he can’t be expected to carry us every game while Collin is out.

I come back to this like every game. A future rotating backcourt of Garland/Okoro/Sexton is just not gonna get it done. Each player has too many holes in their game. Some fixable, but more importantly, some not.

The way I look at fixing Garland, Okoro, and Sexton as backcourt is to replace Okoro or devalue what we expect from him and try to get a tall PG that can play defense and shoot 3s. I think there is just too much of a gap on offense for Okoro to become a starting SG. We have to redefine what role we expect for him in the future.

Losing Sexton really hurt us. We just don’t have enough scoring with Lauri and Love still out.

Windler … I’m on the @PIP train. He’s just horrible in the half court. He can hit a wide open three and that’s it. Defensively he’s not strong enough. Start this guy? Please.

Okoro did a tremendous job defensively. Obviously he’s an offensive liability. He isn’t the reason we lost, and if he’s hurt and misses games we’re in deep trouble.

Overall our guys still have a lot to learn but we fought hard. Shame we lost but we had been 3-0 in games with games decided by three points or less.

Who did he struggle on defensively?

Not that it changes much, but if you watch the go ahead 3 by Kuzma Stevens is clearly trying to intentionally foul Beal as he’s driving to the basket.

I also don’t get the complaint about the Garland shot in the thread as if that’s on the coach. Best option for us on the floor broke off whatever play we were running because he got a wide open look at 3. He missed it, oh well.

Good learning experience for all involved. Washington bullied them all night and the Cavs kept coming back or holding them off until the last 30 seconds. Tip your cap to a guy getting hot at the end and move on.

Nah. Not tipping my cap. He didn’t just get hot. He hit two wide open threes with no one within 5 feet of him. That’s beating yourself. Not getting beat.

Stevens couldn’t actually foul him in time properly because he got dusted by multiple feet on the inbounds two times in a row on the same play that was fucking just flipped in terms of where they inbounded. He shouldn’t have been anywhere near the game.

why didn’t JBB call timeout to get Garland in the game to take those FTs Rubio took? Why save it for when you go down? You gotta get your offensive/FT unit back on for the most important possession of the game if you’re gonna play the sub in/sub out game.

it’s ok to admit the coach failed the team tonight. He’s the one who needs to fucking learn from tonight. I feel bad for the young bucks on this team that played a good crunch time on and put us in a position to win to see JBB shit all over it by going gigantic and slow against a team full of small ball wings and guards desperately trying to kick it out for a three.

we lost due to strategy. We didn’t have the right players on the floor to execute the proper strategy to hold on and win, and therefore had the wrong strategy.

That was one of the most poorly coached last minutes of basketball I can ever remember seeing.

From not using our foul to give on the second Kuzma 3 to not having our best FT shooter in the game and the end of a close game in favor of a cold defensive substitution who got burnt both times on the inbound to not having someone stuck to Kuzma like glue to the total lack of creativity on the last play out of a timeout…to playing big when they went small and needed only threes..

I’m big mad right now and need to log off for the night and go to bed. We had no business losing that game. Incompetent fucking coaching. Trash. Garbage.
Yeah, JBB really crapped the bed with the way he coached the team when it was win or lose time. Kuzma was the only player on the Wiz that could hit a three, inexcusable not blanketing him. Not taking an easy 2 when we were down one was dumb as fuck.

Not just the scoring we miss from Sexton but the gravity also. I just didn't see the easy assists from Garland and Rubio tonight because there just is so little gravity out on the court to draw the defense so they can make the counter moves to get guys easy buckets. Pace seems to go way down too. Sexton might be the only guy that truly likes to sprint in transition.

Mobley made his rotation after Stevens got his ass torched on the inbounds both times. Stevens got torched so bad he couldn’t make the foil because he couldn’t stay within three feet of the ball handler. First rotation fail was Allen who just didn’t respect Kuzma and the second one was likely actually a failure by Rubio.

But the problem is Stevens got torched so bad both times on both inbounds because of his lack of footspeed and his anticipation. He shouldn’t have ever been in the game on their fast players . Garland should have stayed on the court. We didn’t have the timeouts to properly do that strategy. AND he should have taken a timeout to get Garland in instead of letting Rubio get fouled and shoot the FTs. The kid has iced games with FTs already and we desperately needed both to be made and he holds the timeout just in case we miss and then give up a 3 and go down one?

just piss poor coaching in every respect.
I’ve got no problem blaming coaching for those two plays as well. As well as other guys on defense. And I appreciate you detailing those issues.

Mobley still should not have chosen leave Kuzma. He was never going to be able to affect that shot from that far away if the driver chose to shoot the two with two guys already on him. Cavs we’re up two as well so at worst it results in a tie and overtime.

That deleted tweet was so amateurish too. I swear this org is so damn fortunate they lucked into Mobley or they could've been rudderless for a long, long time.

Well it was amateurish because Cavs new social media team this year is basically composed of spunky little amateurs. That's the least of my concerns tonight though. Plus they're occasionally kinda clever and funny when they're not trying too hard.

JUst..why the fuck was Allen in the fucking game up 4 when he wasn't the guy guarding the inbounds? We protecting the lob pass, JBB? You just need guys who can run them off the 3 point line. We don't need to protect the rim there.

Shit like that from him that really makes you question his coaching chops.

Look at the decsion in the Sacramento game last season where JB didnt put no pressure on the inbound pass from 94 feet and it allowed Fox to make the game winning shot. I was done with JB then.

Not sure I understand the idea of Okoro being on the floor late with a multiple possession lead. At that point, if you keep executing offensively, you win.
Based on what I saw the first few games of the season JBB was throwing Okoro out there at the end of games to preserve the lead or playing not to lose (which often leads to losing but I digress). I agree it would be better to have some kind of scoring option on the floor in a close game. Can't afford to give away possessions by playing 4 against 5 offensively in a tight game.
