Garland does not have Steph's talent and never will. Few will. Lillard is his ceiling. Most likely the next Kenny Anderson.
such a weird hill to die on.
Kenny Anderson was great, BTW, until injuries and personal issues caught up with him. Darius is a better shooter than Chibbs though, and maybe there's a little bit of the stop/start thing that Kenny had, but Kenny's was built on being left handed.

While I don't like the high turnovers, I'd say it's necessary for growth. He has to have the "balls" to make the pass to see what works and what doesn't. I'm fine with the experimenting to progress. Let's just hope it grows his decision-making process positively going on the upward trend.

I’ve been gone a few months. Ready to eat serious crow about Darius. To be fair, he doesn’t look like the same guy from years past. I don’t know how anyone could expect him to regain his quickness like he did. Really happy he turned the corner and made good on his potential so far. Just need to cut the TOs and stay healthy!

Cavs' ORTG
Garland ON: 109.9 (best on team)
Garland OFF: 95.5 (worst on team)
Net: +14.4

Cavs' DRTG
Garland ON: 103.9
Garland OFF: 99.6 (best on team)
Net: +4.3

Garland On-Off: +10.1

Offensively, DG is already pretty great. If he can just raise that 3P% a couple percentage points and reduce the turnovers, he'll really be on his way to being an elite offensive player.

Defensively he's still not good, but from the eye test I feel like he looks a lot better this year. He's fighting over screens better than I've seen in the past and making decent rotations/switches. He needs to stop falling asleep offf ball, and his size will obviously always limit him on this end, but I think he can become merely below average on this end with time rather than being a total liability. Also, cutting down the turnovers will reduce fast break opportunities for opposing teams, which helps the defense.

I agree. He has improved a lot.

I’m ready to officially say that Garland has made “the leap” from intriguing young player to pretty much fringe all-star.

As he grows and matures and builds chemistry with this team over multiple seasons of continuity hopefully(something that we rarely get to see here but could pay dividends in the long run), as he continues to transform his body more and more every offseason…I do believe he will be an all-star sooner rather than later.

He is 21 years old. 21!!! That’s why the turnovers don’t scare me too much.

He can play with the best of them. That’s why guys like Steph Curry say the things they do about him. The kid has shown dynamic and elite ability in scrimmages, camp, practice, etc.

Now he’s showing it in games. It was always a matter of when, not if.

Shit I’d argue Garland is the 3rd best player in his draft class behind Zion and Ja.

I’d say it goes…Ja, Zion, Garland, Herro, Barrett in that order. Then Hunter, PJ Washington and Cam Johnson right outside that as good role players.

That was actually a prettty good draft in hindsight.

Garland is ascending though. I think it would be prudent of the Cavs to get an extension done with Darius as early as possible. If they think there is any opening to lock him up beyond next season for anything short of a max contract, I would seriously explore it. Because I do think Darius Garland is going to be a guy who can get a max offer sheet by the end of next season. Now, I know Klutch may decide to advise Garland that he should not agree to taking less than a max and may be willing to take their chances in RFA…

I do have some hope that Garland decides he loves being here with Mobley particularly as well as Allen and if the Cavs come swinging with a competitive 5 year offer in the 125 million range that maybe they can get something done….l

That floater and those shots off the glass are absolute cash money, and don’t even get me started on the lobs to JA.

Even with his shooting being inconsistent at times this season, it’s still a 46/36/85 split. Not bad for a third year guard that played five games in college.

Kid’s got All-Star/NBA appearances in his future.

I think a lot of people on this board who said "let it fly" all last year - we don't really mind this lack of efficiency on his higher volume with Sexton out. It's to be expected. Those splits are still pretty really good, and he'll only get better.

That is the question, will his efficiency improve with the higher volume???? Or is this it??? Playmaking wise, yes I can see him being even better in 2 years. Scoring/shooting wise.......I think he is hitting his ceiling.

The other thing about the turnovers is that the Cavs are one of the high assist teams in the league. All those teams suffer from turnovers at times. If you commit to moving the ball it is one of the consequences.

He isn't dribbling off his knee or trying fancy moves, he is trying to make the right pass for the most part.

Sarcasm right?

Even if he's close to his ceiling as a scorer, the Cavs are very lucky to have him. The Cavs are 10-4 when all of Allen, Mobley, and Garland played together this season. When you look at their schedule, that's remarkable. The long-term question marks are Lauri and Okoro. If they can average 20-30 points combined, then I think the Cavs are in really good shape. But if Lauri washes out at SF, and Okoro doesn't improve at all offensively, they've got holes to fill.
