Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The expectation is still the same. Guy is still 3-5 months away from being cleared to resume full baseball activities.

It’s nice to see him moving forward, but that doesn’t mean he’s close one bit to doing actual things required to play a professional sport.

Unless the season is delayed he’s going to be on the 60 day.

Do you think he has a spot when 100% healthy or will he have to earn his roster spot back?

Something tells me if we (they) were hoping/counting on Naylor being a key producer he wouldn't be put on the 60 man.

Instead, now that his future is murky taking as long as possible before they "have to" bring him back make sense.

If Bradley grabs 1st by the horns and the corner OF isn't a mess, who knows where he ends up.

Nice review of "...how the past becomes the future..." as it relates to how a prospects minor league results project to the major league.. In this article.. there are two statistics that become the subject of article: K/BB ratio and age/2B totals..

Steve Kwan is listed as an example of what this article is about.. The comments section also specifically support Steve Kwan's chances of being a Guardians' contributor in 2022.. perhaps, a few are hyperbolic..but.. it's a fan site..to be expected...

Looks like the Owen Miller curse, or should I say Matt LaPorta?

I will say though his numbers are a lot more appetizing. Also his swinging strike rate, showing that he doesn't miss many baseballs at all.

"I can see him contributing to the Guardian’s, but what level of success he’ll have will depend on if he can show at least medium-range power to keep MLB pitchers honest. If not, they’ll pound the zone on him, limiting his on-base skills. He showed improvement on the power front while maintaining his other hitting skills last year, so he’s definitely worth keeping an eye on as Cleveland is always in search of OFers." - This I think is a realistic comment but given Kwan's ability to make contact I don't pitchers using that approach the biggest concern. I'm more worried about the same phenomenon with Richie P in that his more walk-based OBP won't translate over to the MLB due to this phenomenon, and he hasn't shown near the contact skills of Kwan.

I'll be cheering for Kwan but he looks like another Ka'ai Tom. Similar stats, build and position however Kwan is four years younger than Tom so maybe he still has some development left.

So are the G’s gonna even call Carlos Correa when they get a chance to do so or is this one of those classic situations where there’s a really talented player out there who fills a major hole on your team, but you ignore the fact that he’s out there cause he doesn’t have a discount sticker on him ?

I think a formal offer should be made….

They don't have similar stats at all, at least the ones that matter. Kwan's biggest asset (contact) is simply not there for Tom.

Not sure how you can look at someone who strikes out less than 10% of the time and compare them to someone who strikes out 25% of the time and say their stats look similar.

Tom does have the power edge though.

Missed the K rate. My bad.

He and Tom are not similar at all other than they bat from the same side.

I think this kid can contribute, but I don't know if his moderate power will translate therefore I don't see him as a corner OFer. The question I have that cannot be answered at this time is if Steven Kwan is a better all around CFer than Myles Straw?

If Naylor has a spot then which spot is it? Bradley is going to be given the 1B opportunity so if he produces the job is his. If they view Josh as one of the OF options for 2022 or 2023 doesn't that change the outlook a bit. The same can be said for Jones. Do they anticipate him hitting well once he's fully healthy and playing? If so, isn't he viewed more as an OFer now? There's Kwan to consider as well. They rostered Zimmer and Mercado. Sounds like Palacios is an OFer now and he looks ready for an opportunity. Somebody care to clarify this conundrum for me?

This is the Gs, you need to up that discount there a Lil. 1/3rd of last year's payroll is a just a tad too rich for this ownerships blood.

remove a zero

He’ll have a spot.

They’re not going to rush him back to the MLB level as soon as he is healthy though. Think they’ll give him half a season in the minors to get his feet under him.

Curious since it was a significant injury, does the club think this will limit his ceiling as a player or do they see it as something he will be able to fully move beyond in time and be the same player he was before?

It seems to me that his future may be at 1B.
