Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He could probably handle 1st base ala Prince Fielder and would be as good/better than Hafner, but that is a pretty low bar. That said once you move him off catcher he should become a full time DH - while still being a backup/backup/emergency catcher...

That profile smells good for a NL team with the new DH rules.

Kirk is way to short to play 1B... He's 5'8... he actually may be better suited for 3B than 1B sadly...

Just a hint.

Start with Plesac.
He would be a very attractive pitcher to trade.. the return should be highly beneficial to the needs of the Guardians, going forward.. but.. it takes two to tango...

Oh he'd be terrible at it. 5'8? I thought he was slightly taller myself. Should've checked

Almost every team could use a quality pitcher. Price is what they'd be haggling over.

Now go find some good ones...

The thing is, Prince Fielder played 1B his whole life and he was still that bad. Kirk is 3-4 inches shorter without the experience there. I think he'd actually end up being worse than Fielder and certainly Hafner. On virtually any team you're better off sticking your DH at 1B and having Kirk play DH as opposed to the opposite.

Yeah I think some NL team at least would be willing to put in a pretty good offer for him but as of now he hasn't yet been traded so...

It's probably a little deeper involved than that. If you look at the SP depth and the quality of it, it might be wiser to not risk an extension with Bieber and take a wait and see approach with those prospects performances.
agree with this...

Bieber is the horse you ride until he dies..

Kind of a silly question right?

Happy that Jose signed at below market value to stay with our team for his whole career? Of course everyone is happy about that.

Do the same weaknesses still exist for this team that did an hour ago? Thats still a major concern too.

But lets not wet blanket this historic day for the franchise.

Honestly with Clase and Jose locked up, our pitching being as good as it is, team being healthy and calling up some young guys, it seems they have some direction. That direction might not be to compete this year for a WS, but it seems they want to keep around the cornerstones while the young guys improve and then maybe add some payroll when we are in striking distance of a title.

This signing completely changes the picture of this team having direction in a positive way.

To be clear, I wouldn't move him to 1st but as a C he should in theory be decent at picking the ball out of the dirt and a decent range less fielder.

He'll make a fine DH someday

Kirk is a DH.

A little common sense says that, even if he really could play reasonable defense behind the plate (highly doubtful), his knees wouldn't hold up.

He is as big as Franmil, but nine inches shorter.

I hope 1 thing comes out of this.

Paul Hoynes should never be treated as a serious source for insider information when it comes to this team. I've tried telling that to everyone here before. He has no sources. His one source, if you even want to call it that, has nothing to do with the player transaction side of things. He hasn't had a viable source on that end since 2016 when he stuck his foot in his mouth and pissed off the entire front office and coaching staff in the process.

No, @Andrew Scheid I will not apologize to Paul Hoynes. He got this situation and the Clase situation entirely wrong every step of the way. Even if a Jose extension never gets done, he was wrong at every turn.

Bimbo slapping some bitches around with his 12 inch cock.

Well deserved btw.

Still talking with Bieber, but I think if something happens it will be next year.

Shoulder's are tricky and both sides are wanting to protect themselves; Cleveland's side on the risk, Biebers side on the monetary aspect (his agency is Drew Rosenhaus' agency, Drew's brother is Shane's primary rep). Just a tough circumstance to get something done.

Will you make a guess if we extend Bieber or do you think the shoulder risk and Rosenhaus ask will cause us to trade him for a shitload of young talent?

I know pure speculation, just curious on your opinion.

Everybody seemingly wants to trade Plesac.

It would have to bring a haul of young MLB and MLB ready players.

But not this year, because we need every SP we have right now just to get thru the season.

And its quite possible that a lot fewer fans will want to trade him after watching him pitch this year.

Don't underestimate Kirk's ability to hit... The dude can just flat out hit, but anything else is a question mark...(outside of knowing the best places in town to eat...) Honestly if we didn't have Reyes, I'd be okay with getting Kirk, but since we have Reyes, I want nothing to do with Kirk...
...the only restaurants Kirk has a standing reservation at are All You Can Eat Buffets..
