New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He's gotta be the best bad guy actor out there right now. He absolutely kills every bad guy role

Walton Goggins will always be the best for his roles on Justified and The Shield.

Am I the only one that found the Targaryens the least interesting family in the show?

Dragons are cool and all, but, meh.

With how many stories they have commissioned to make into spinoffs, I'm not sure it's the most interesting or best storylines that they are trying to put into production. I think it's whatever they can adapt and break further story from. It's got to be real hard to create the storylines for any of this. There isn't a whole bunch of books/comics that this can be adapted from and there really hasn't been the time for fans/writers to think of stories on their own.

Like Star Wars has Dave Filoni and a bunch of other writers who were fans their whole lives that probably have been imagining storylines for decades. Marvel has comics that they can just ask writers to adapt to the screen.

Game of Thrones didn't even have a great writers room to branch off of. So much of it was direct adaptation of the books done by a few people and when they had to move off of that source material to break the story themselves, the show definitely went downhill.

Martin has written a decent amount about Targaryen history in the Fire & Blood book he released a few years back, so much of what should take place on the new HBO show isn’t exactly uncharted territory. It’s not written as completely as the Ice & Fire books, obviously, but it’s also not like the writers are going to have to come up with everything from scratch like the GoT writers did the last couple of seasons.

It’s also possible that they have a better writing room than Game of Thrones did.

If I’m being honest, though, I think a big part of why the last few seasons of Game of Thrones fell apart was because the show runners lost their passion for making it. They clearly wanted to move on and so they rushed their way to the finale to get it over with instead of taking their time and working their way to it naturally.

I read an article that this Targaryen show had source material from fire and blood after I made that post. I think it might be the reason why they went to make it. I know there was a pilot with Naomi Watts that they spent alot of money and they scrapped it.

I agree that they could have a better writers room for this. If they are use to breaking story and creating their own pace to the show, I think they will have a easier time than the Game of thrones show runners did in the later seasons. I think some of the reason why they rushed to the end was because they weren't use to breaking the story for themselves, they were mostly adapting and pairing down the books. Their passions most likely lied with actual production and film making of the show than the writing.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Targ history in Fire and Blood.

The civil war is perfect backdrop for a new series. Cannot wait for HotD.

Yeah. It might end up sucking, but I'm going to at least give it a shot. HBO rarely has bad shows. Even Game of Thrones was pretty incredible and probably the biggest pop culture phenomenon of the past decade up until they ran out of source material, which is as much on Martin as the showrunners.

Big Sky is solid on ABC.

Ron is up there among the best villians on TV recently.

Anybody watch Animal Kingdom? I saw a few season premiere promos while watching hockey the other night. My parents watched and recommended it but wanted to see if anybody else watches/watched it? Need a new show to watch from the beginning

I haven't seen the latest season and I know the final season is coming out soon.

It reminds me a bit of Yellowstone simply from a "this is far fetched and ridiculous, but also entertaining" standpoint.

Basic premise is the main character's (Michael from Peaky Blinders) mother dies from an OD at the beginning of the show and he then moves in with the grandmother and 4 uncles, who are all professional criminals/thieves. I think it's based off of a movie of the same name.

I watch it and it gets better as the series goes on. It's hard to explain why it exactly gets better in the later seasons without spoiling it.

I'm not sure it's a binge worthy show though. I watched it because it came on in the summer when very little else was on. It wasn't a show that I couldn't wait for the next episode to come out. It's something I had to watch live otherwise it would just pile up on the DVR.

I would wait on the last season to end to see if the ending pays off anything. If it doesn't end well, I'm not sure I would recommend it to people.

An interesting look at some of the world design behind the new Targ HBO series:
