Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Official list for 2022 is in:

Dolly Parton made it in despite looking for a way out. Eminem, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, Eurythmics, Duran Duran and Pat Benatar are also in.

I'd like to say for the record Carly Simon's 1980s album was a favorite of my mom's... and it completely sucked. Zero redeemable qualities. It's the soundtrack of Boomer housewives finding depression in their comfort.

That is a bit harsh on Carly Simon, but i am not a huge fan or anything, but it does have some redeeming qualities.

A couple worthy inductees but clearly the standards for entry are lowering. Dolly, Eminem, and Lionel have the sales to justify them, but are a long way from rockers. The rest are talented successes that filled a niche for a bit. Other than the three I named, no one is the kind of legend I think of in a hall of famer. I'm not aggrieved, just kind of indifferent.

So the Rock and Roll hall of fame is more of a popular music hall of fame. All 3 had cross over htis and thus why they are deserving to be in.

We can argue if it should be strictly rock or popular music, but once the decision was to make it popular music, Dolly should of been in years ago...Lionel too.

Fucking Eurythmics, Carly Simon, and Pat Benatar in, Kate Bush still out. If you really to induct some women, they left out the most talented and innovative of the bunch.

I can't believe Eminem has been around for 25+ years. Makes me feel old, probably because I am.

That was my thought exactly. I am not mad he is in because popular music not Rock, but no way Eminem has been around for 25 years, just no fucking way. I was already an adult when came around so this makes me officially really fucking old.

I remember driving through Detroit with some friends on our way to Windsor, Canada when Eminem blew up. He was all over local radio.

.

So we ran every red light and drove fast. He made that joint sound like a city of nutcases.

My legitimate question coming out of this 2022 Rock Hall process...

...Do the Baby Boomers have too much say? The past three classes feel like great Gen X nominees keep getting pushed to the side for the dregs of the Boomer generation talent pool.

Who is being missed? Eminem is clearly Gen X, in this case lets assume its a pop music hall of fame, but the 25 year requirement means 90's bands are eligable, who is not in that should be next? I am sure there are deserving, but i would think bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam are already in. So which ground breaking bands or huge bands from the 90's are missing.....trying to start legit convo.

Dave Matthews Band is probably the biggest snub for Gen Xers...

That does seem like a big snub, maybe they are in the Generic Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? lol

Joking aside, they deserve to be in for sure, any others?

So I have been crazy busy - waiting on an offer I made for a perspective new home - and this is a fun distraction.

Without digging too deeply, Generation X is defined as born between 1965 and 1980. So, bands who were big in the 1980s sometimes make the threshold but often just miss. Duran Duran might be considered a seminal band for Gen Xers, but they were late Boomers performing for Gen X fans. Also in that category: Guns n' Roses and RHCP.

I'm talking mostly about musicians who are now about age 55 to 42. I can think of about twelve acts off the top of my head who make the cutoff and are in... Yet the Boomers push through the vast majority of acts every year.

We have said the talent pool getting in is watered down. Isn't the next move to get some early alternative bands like Pixies, Soundgarden, Sonic Youth, Rage and STP in rather than some of the weaker acts of the generation before?

I love Duran Duran and think they are well deserved to be in. Guns and Roses is an all time favorite.

I am in the middle of Gen X and agree, just wondering who was missing from Gen X. So far we have Pat Benatar and MSB. Just curious for some missing names.

Always felt GnR were overrated.

I am not taking anything away from the cusp Gen X bands who are in. Definitely went through a phase for both Gn'R as well as Duran Duran. The Cure are also in that category of late Boomer age but huge among Gen Xers in their prime.

To add to that initial list of Gen X musicians, I'd nominate Snoop Dog, Alice in Chains, OutKast, No Doubt, Bjork, Fugees, and probably Linkin Park despite not being a huge fan personally.

I think they are under rated.

Everyone credits Nirvana, a great band, but not the first Grunge band, and not the first band to move away from the glam rock/hair band sound.

Soundgarden, while not the first, were the biggest band by far of the first wave of Grunge, Nirvana was in a 2nd wave with Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains and others.

As for the first big band after the hair band wave, I give Guns credit for that, thus while i dont think they get their due. Without guns we dont have Grunge imo.
