Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I fee the same way about Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen.

Imagine living with the secret that I love Hall and Oates and hate Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen knowing how most music buffs feel about that, lol

I've grown to like Petty a bit more than I did before, but his singing is so damn nasally. He and Dylan definitely are an acquired taste when it comes to their voices.

Dylan is another one i hate, but Dylan seems easy to avoid.

Not a current topic, but I never expected to see these guys in the same room again. Pretty cool.

(PG was in the audience, did not take part in the show.)

PG signed a friend of mine to his first major studio record contract, he has had a decently successful career...my high school friend, not Peter Gabriel, his career was more than just decently successful, lol

Collins was a better drummer than vocalist. He wasn't bad as a vocalist, but he was a very good drummer. I'm more of a fan of Gabriel, but Genesis minus Gabriel still made some really good stuff for as long as Steve Hackett was still there, anyway.

Loved Genesis - the first two albums I bought with my own money were Genesis and Huey Lewis. As a guy at the tail end of Gen X, Genesis was a crucial bridge from the prog rock of my father's record collection to early MTV.

I could never quite get in Huey Lewis. I mean for sure my era, and i listened to some songs. Cant explain my love of hall and Oates but didnt like Huey, Genesis on the other hand is just way to good of a band to not enjoy some of their music.

My Huey Lewis flex as an elementary school kid buying his first cassettes doesn't age as well as the Genesis flex!

I mean Duran Duran was huge while i was in school and i loved them and still love them to this day. I dont think Huey Lewis is out of the genre, just not something I enjoy. But he is in the HOF and Huey Lewis was huge, I hate insulting music, because its personal and just because I dont like it doesnt mean its good. And this is the HOF thread so we should be talking about who is worthy, but clearly HL is in.

That said, no, i dont think Huey is in the same class of Genesis, but if we made a list, few bands are. Sure Zeppelin is better, I take Guns and Roses, Metallica, and a few other bands over personally, but Genesis for the rock or even soft rock genre is a really, really good band.

And i know you are joking, but i didnt take it as a flex. A flex is telling you my first record was Do Run Run by Shawn Cassidy and I was obsessed with that song in Kindergarten, lol .... That is a flex, get out of here with your Huey Lewis, lol

Fun fact: Elvis Costello, in his debut album (My Aim Is True) was backed by the band that went on to become Huey Lewis' "The News".

Official list for 2022 is in:

Dolly Parton made it in despite looking for a way out. Eminem, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, Eurythmics, Duran Duran and Pat Benatar are also in.

I'd like to say for the record Carly Simon's 1980s album was a favorite of my mom's... and it completely sucked. Zero redeemable qualities. It's the soundtrack of Boomer housewives finding depression in their comfort.

A couple worthy inductees but clearly the standards for entry are lowering. Dolly, Eminem, and Lionel have the sales to justify them, but are a long way from rockers. The rest are talented successes that filled a niche for a bit. Other than the three I named, no one is the kind of legend I think of in a hall of famer. I'm not aggrieved, just kind of indifferent.
