New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Boys season 3 is easily the best of the show so far. I'm one episode behind, but anything A Train does through 4 episodes has me dying of laughter.

Any good series to recommend? Or movie for that matter.. I just thought i'd ask it here.
Since Severance was so good, I'm going to give another AppleTV+ show a chance and start watching For All Mankind.

Have read some good stuff about it but can't recall seeing it mentioned on here.

I've watched the first 1.5 episodes and so far it's like a slight alternate reality where the timeline from our current real history was changed due to the USSR putting a man on the moon first. Not like a sci-fi/multiverse type of thing, just a fictional version of Earth/the US if this event in history had happened different.

Main star so far seems to be Joel Kinnaman, who was in the Suicide Squad movies. Was really great in a detective show from a decade ago called The Killing, which is definitely good if you enjoy a good detective murder mystery procedural set in the Northwest US.

For all man kind is a very slow burn but season 2 is one of the best seasons of TV ever

Agreed. I think its certainly the best paced season they've had. It feels like the stakes are higher and there is a lot less fluff. Less fluff + more Homelander is a recipe for success. Antony Starr deserves more mainstream recognition for the best bad guy on TV. He's giving Joffrey Baratheon a run for best psychopath this season.

Just finished the first half of Stranger Things S4. I was stuck on S3 for about half a year - had lost interest and then just decided to finish it on a whim. Glad I did because it has also gone up a notch in quality, IMO. Huge fan of the longer episode format. Better production quality - digging the mini movies.

I don't want to take away anything from Jack Gleeson's performance as Joffrey, because he was truly loathsome, but I find Antony Starr's performance to be on a different level. There's a lot more nuance, because unlike Joffrey, Homelander has to pretend to be a good guy more often than not, and he has an innate desire to be loved that Joffrey didn't have, which means he can't give in to his worst instincts like Joffrey regularly did.

Homelander is also genuinely terrifying. Joffrey himself wasn't really all that frightening because, if you stripped away the guards, he was a little pussy that Arya had bawling. Homelander is the most powerful being on Earth, as far as we know, so the fact that he's also a sociopathic narcissist is inherently more terrifying. He's basically Trump if he had Superman powers. And lest you think I'm making this political, that's a very obvious comparison the show is trying to draw this year. The show has never shied away from politics. Vought News is very clearly a Fox News parallel as well.

The Old Man on AMC with Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow has started out really strong. Can't wait for the next episode to come out.

I'm enjoying Dark Winds, too - produced by George R. R. Martin and Robert Redford. It's kind of a slower burn, but really good so far.

Old Man started great, a little uneven and predictable, but a stellar cast and you have to like Jeff Bridges. Looking for a big finish.

Thanks for the suggestion, I did want to mention it airs on FX, not AMC. In case anyone else is looking for it.

Only Murders in the Building Season 2 started well enough.

I know a couple of episodes came out, are they coming out weekly after that or all at once?

Yeah, every Tuesday until the season is over. Similar to most Apple TV shows.

I wish they'd all just drop the whole series at once. Or half one week, half the next. We like to binge them, which means waiting for the series to be over or almost over.

Timing would have been perfect for the whole series, too, we just binged season 1 a week or so ago.

Yeah, I do like the Stranger Things release style. But at the same time, I also kind of like the long term suspense because I can get really into binging and then get upset that it's all over :chuckle:
