How do yall take that site seriously, I looked at it a few weeks ago and sorted all of the Guardians by value....Straw was #4 in the whole org.

What do the values represent, how are they calculated?

They are suppossed to be some measure of trade value using performance, position played, contract value, etc I dont know everything it uses but those are the moat obvious factors.

Yeah. Surplus value might be the easiest way to say it (projected value less cost =). If you will (it’s quite a stretch) you’ll run into similar issues as you do forecasting financials: variables running amok.

With Soto turning down $440 million the Nationals say they will entertain trade offers.
Soto becomes a free agent in 2025. So the buyer would have 2 years of an expensive outfielder.

But here's the thing:
Juan Soto may be a generational talent, and maybe future HOF'er.
So I'll start a conversation. Would you trade for him?
The G's look like they have a bunch of prospects ready to hit, (and pitch)
Adding Soto to the lineup could be transformational.
BTV is useless in trying to figure this out because Soto wouldn't be tradeable except for the contract.

It's just a no for us, since we cannot extend him...

What do we need most offensively?

A RH corner bat.

It appears that the DBacks are willing to trade 1B Christian Walker.

Puts balls in play, doesn't K a lot, takes walks, and hits balls out of the park. And he is a plus defender, a GG candidate.

His problem is that although he does everything right, he hasn't gotten rewarded for it...a .188 BABIP in spite of above average EV and barrel rates.

Look at his expected numbers...

.270 xBA
.580 xSLG
.400 xwOBA

He's 31 with two years of control left.

Consider just the defensive side for a moment.

Amed has made 6 errors, five of them throwing. Gimenez has made 6 errors, two of them throwing. Jose has made 4 errors, two of them throwing.

More so Miller, but how many times have we seen our 1Bs mishandle a low throw that either was ruled a base hit or a throwing error?

Walker would make our entire inf defense better.

If the FO is serious about moving Franmil, it may be looking at a separate trade for Walker.

Walker would allow Naylor to DH, and act as a bridge until our RH 1B prospects are ready to compete for a job in Cleveland.

I've like Walker for quite some time and he would be a nice addition.

I'd find out what some of these kids can do in the corner OF and even CF. If Brennan or Benson are as or more productive than Kwan and/or Straw then I would capitalize on their current values. I'm not saying any minor leaguer can or can't produce at the level Straw and Kwan are so I don't want to hear "you love your prospects". Kwan and Straw are good ballplayers with limited upside. We hope that Straw's 2nd half of the 21 season wasn't a fluke and what you see with Kwan is what you get. Few have the ability to put that bat on the ball like him, but one of those that can appears to be playing in Columbus right now and he has more upside and is better defensively so........

I don't know how they will fit all of Kwan, Straw, Jones, OGon, Brennan, Benson and Valera in. I can't even begin to think how to do it. Somebody is going to get shortchanged in all of this. Hopefully we don't get stuck with 2 slap hitting OFers and instead we have an OF that is an offensive force while playing very good defense.

Josh Naylor has a .460 OPS as a DH and an .880 OPS as a first baseman. I wouldn't be too quick to relegate Naylor to DH.

Small sample sizes never impress me.

In his career Naylor has a .799 OPS as a RF, much higher than at any other position.

I dont think anyone wants to see Josh in RF.

We NEED a RH corner bat now, and for the next several years.

If it's not Franmil, it has to come from outside the system.
